Leona, Thank you very much. This is in the same time period that my father was adopted. Was this adoption done "intercounty" and not across county lines? My father was born in Oregon County, Mo, taken to St. Louis (so I have been told) and taken from there to Lawrence County, Mo to be adopted. He also had a brother that was adopted into another family in Lawrence County. I have a Bible with the name of the man who brought the boys to Lawrence County. I will email a friend who lives near the Lawrence County seat and see if she knows who does county research there.
