Hi Brenda, I found Ida and their daughter in the book for Red Oak. You may already have this information, but just in case: Lawrence County Missouri Tombstone Inscriptions, Vol. 3, Red Oak, Greene, and Lincoln Townships, Red Oak Cemetery, p. 16: Lot 14 Thornton, Mrs. Ida M. UNMARKED Cora A., 1 Apr 1893 - 9 Oct 1894 daughter of J. F. & I. M. There is a Barry County cemetery list online at the Barry County GenWeb site, but I did not see a Friendship Cemetery listed there. Perhaps it is the one in Pierce City. If there were only fieldstones marking the grave, the stones may now be gone. Perhaps your g-g-aunt can help locate it. There are only two Lawrence County newspapers available for part of 1902. Copies of the Peirce City Empire are available through 25 Sep 1902 and the Lawrence County Record through 3 Jul 1902. You might find an obituary or death notice. For Barry County, there are only three issues available for 1902, the Cassville Democrat for Aug 30, Sep 27, and Dec 6. Ross Cameron >>> [email protected] 04/25/03 07:57AM >>> Henry Thornton lived in Barry County as far as I know. There is no tombstone for his grave from what I was told by my g-g aunt, just a fieldstone in that cemetary. Apparently his son, John Franklin Thornton was also buried in the same cemetary with a fieldstone as a marker. John Franklin's wife (Ida Sheppard Thornton) was buried in Red Oak Cemetary in Lawrence Co. She died the same month as Henry Thornton in 1902. JF Thornton didn't survive either for very long. We believe Ida had TB so did JF. ThanksBrenda From: "Ross Cameron" To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MOLAWREN-L] Fellowship/Thomas Hi, There is a Friendship Baptist Church cemetery in Pierce City. According to Lawrence County, Missouri, Tombstone Inscriptions, Vol. 9, Pierce City and Western Pierce Township, p. 92, part of this site was made into a parking lot. The only tombstone inscriptions reported there are two Higgs stones. There are a only a few Thorntons listed in the indexes to all nine volumes of Lawrence County Tombstone Inscriptions, but there is no Henry Thornton. I also did not find him in the 1900 Lawrence County census, though there was one Thornton family and a James Thornton boarding in another dwelling. Is it possible that Henry Thornton was buried in a cemetery near Lawrence County but not in Lawrence County? Ross Cameron >>> [email protected] 04/24/03 02:20PM >>> I did find the cemetary but I think it is the wrong one. I may need Friendship instead. Henry Thornton died June 1902. Thanks for your help. Hi, You may have already found the cemetery and checked the tombstone inscriptions. >From Lockwood, go south on Hwy. 97. Cross Hwy. 96 (old Route 66). Go 1 mile, turn right onto farm road 2070. Go about 1 mile and the cemetery is on the left side of the road near the intersection with farm road 1050. There are several Thomases buried there, but I do not know if it was ever called Thomas Cemetery. Many of the cemeteries in Lawrence County have been known by more than one name. Sometimes, a family started a cemetery and then it was deeded to a church or cemetery association. There are four pages of inscriptions on pages 24-27 of Lawrence County, Missouri, Tombstone Inscriptions, Vol. VII, Vineyard and Mt. Pleasant Townships.
