    3. Looking for information about the wife and children of John Charles Whinery (b. 1864 near Haven, Greene Co, Mo, ?, d. 1962 Los Angeles. John Charles "Charley" was the son of Lewis Whinery and Elvira/Elvina Likins, he married a Matilida/Martha around 1896. They had the following children: Gladys married an (?) Emmett Owens, they were living in Halltown in 1963 Hannah Faye married an (?)Emmett Mayabb, they were living in Springfield in 1963 Mary Lavina married a Summers or Schoup and was living in Crane, Stone County in 1963 John Charles Whinery appears in the 1900 census, Ozark Township, Lawrence co, where is is identifed as a Merchant, in the 1920 Lawrence County Census, he is shown as living in Halltown Village and identified as a general farmer. Am trying to track down Whinery family members as part of research on their involvement in the milling business in southwest Missouri. John Charles' father operated a mill (still standing, SE of Ash Grove), his brothers operated mills in Cedar and Stone counties, and his cousins operated mills in McDonald, Newton, Lawrence, Dade, and Greene Counties. Apparently Gladys Whinery Owens had the Whinery family bible. Any information will be appreciated and duly acknowledged. Tried to share some information on this list a couple of years ago, it never appeared. Have information on the Whinery, Likins, Yeakley, Johnson (not the Lawrence Co milling family), Johns, Reynolds, Adams, Leeper, Nicholson, Gray, Hunt, and other families, primarily from Greene and Washington Counties TN, who settled in what is now Center, Boone, and Pond Creek townships, Greene County, Mo. Thanks. Kerry McGrath home: [email protected] work: [email protected] (State Historical Society of Iowa)

    3. I have a biographical sketch of Lewis B. Whinery from Index to Greene Co. MO History and also a short sketch of The Spring Creek Mill from History of Stone County Missouri and a short sketch of the Caplinger Mill from Historical Sketches of Cedar County Missouri by Abbott, Clayton. Also have a biographical sketchof William C. Whinrey of Lawrence Co, brother of Lewis B. If any of this you do not have and would want I will be happy to send it to you. My Gr-gr-grandparents are Peterson and Martha Whinrey Grammer who lived in Lawrence Co. So I am interested in all Whinery info. At one time we had a Whinery web page with quite a lot of information on it but I was unable to locate it now. Also interesting to note you are at the State Historical Society in Iowa. We lived in Cedar Falls for about thirty-five years.
