Christie, Greene Township is in the northwest section (but not the corner) of the county and Kendallville was on the western edge of Peirce / Pierce City in the southwest section of the county. I did not find tombstones for Amos nor Letta Jane nor Adaline Saunders / Sanders in either area, although there are other Saunders and Sanders buried in both area. I did note that there is a probate file for Adaline P. Saunders in Box 38, File 848. This would indicate that the probate was filed in August 1885 and this usually occurred shortly after the death. Sometimes it occurred later if inheritance questions arose and the estate had never been probated. This probate file might contain useful information although it would probably not indicate where she was buried. The published newspaper abstracts for that time period do not list an obituary for her. There are two obits for other Saunders during that time period -- on Oct 30, 1881, for Dr. S. A. Saunders, formerly of Peirce City, who died in Kingman, NM, and on Aug. 5, 1886, for Samuel O. Saunders, formerly of Vineyard Township, who apparently was killed by a thief near Joplin while attempting to catch the thief. According to the 1879 Landowners Atlas, A. Saunders owned 120 acres of land in Township 29, Range 28, Section 31, and 120 acres in Township 29, Range 29, Section 36. The sections are adjacent and the lands joined each other, being the NW, NE, and SE 1/4s of the NE 1/4 of Section 36 and the S 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of Section 31 and the SW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Section 31.
