    2. Ross Cameron
    3. Hi Bill, Here are the brides named Casto in the Lawrence County marriage records, 1900-1924. Lawrence Co., Mo., Marriage Records, Vol. VIII, Sep 1900-Jan 1904, p. 29: Pendleton, John, 30, Aurora, to Carrie Castoe, 30, Aurora, 17 Mar 1901, by Rev. W. J. Simmons, Min. Gos. at Marionville, Book I, p. 93. Lawrence Co., Mo. Marriage Records, Vol. IX, Jan 1904-Mar 1908, p. 13: Franklin, O. A., 18, Aurora, to Lora (Lona?) Casto, 16, Aurora, 15 Oct 1908 [should be 1905], by John F. Ragsdale, J. P. Issued by written assent of the respective parents of said minors, Book J, p. 240. In the published transcription the year of the second marriage above is listed as 1908. However, other marriages on other pages near 240 in the original book are in Oct 1905. And the published book title says the marriages are only through Mar. 1908, so I think this is a transcription error or publication typo. The date of 1905 is further confirmed by the 1910 census record below which appears to be this couple. It appears that Lona (Casto) Franklin could be Carrie L. Casto, born Mar 1889 because Carrrie L. would have been 16 in Oct. 1905 when Lona or Lora Casto gave her age as 16 in the marriage record. Apparently the parents names are not given in the marriage consent record. 1910 Census, Missouri, Lawrence Co., Aurora Township, Aurora City, Ward 3, E.D. 88, sheet no. 13A, family 310: Oscar Franklin head 23-yr M-4 Mo. Kan. Mo., mechanic, mines Lona wife 21-yr 3-3 Mo. Mo. Mo. Louise daug 3-yr Mo. Mo. Mo. Murle daug 2-yr Mo. Mo. Mo. Earl son 7/12-yr Mo. Mo. Mo. 1920 Census, Missouri, Lawrence Co., Aurora Township, E.D. 100, family 162: Oscar Franklin 33-yr Mo. Ks. Mo. Lona 30-yr Mo. Mo. Mo. Louise 13-yr Mo. Mo. Mo. Merle (f) 12-yr Mo. Mo. Mo. The Carrie Casto who married John Pendleton in 1901, if age 30, would be more likely to have been the mother of Carrie and Viola. I did not find this couple in 1910 though that census is very difficult to read. The following couple in 1920 appears to be them. 1920 Census, Missouri, Lawrence Co., Aurora Township, Aurora City, Ward 1, E.D. 101, p. 4A, family 92: John Pendleton 48-yr Mo. Ky. Tn. Miner Carrie 49-yr Mo. Oh. Tn. This appears to be confirmed in 1930. 1930 Census, Missouri, Lawrence Co., Aurora Township, E.D. 55-4, sheet 6B, family Pendleton, John W., head, m, w, 58, married, 1st mar. age 21, Mo, Ky, Tn. Carrie M., wife, f, w, 59, married, 1st mar. age 17, Mo, NY, Tn. I did not find a marriage record for Viola C.(or Clementine) Casto. Ruth E. Browning, Southwest Missouri Newspaper Abstracts, Vol. 13, Aurora Advertiser and Southwest Miner, January 3, 1913 - December 31, 1914, p. 21: 29 Aug 1913: James Pendleton will go to Gravette, AR, to see sister Mrs. Mary Casto for first time in 21 years. Brothers George of Aurora and John of Verona will also go as will brother-in-law Jesse Arndhart of Aurora. Hope this helps. Ross Cameron >>> [email protected] 06/09/03 11:37PM >>> Hi List, Does anyone have access to the Lawrence county marriage records of the early 1900's? If so, can someone look up the marriages of two Casto(e) sisters. Carrie L. Casto was born March __, 1889 (1900 census), the daughter of John N. and Carrie Mae (Davenport) Casto. Her sister, Viola C. Casto, (middle name may be Clemmie or Clementine) was born April __, 1891. Again according to the census. I did not find these sisters in the 1910 census, but that does not mean they were not enumerated. It is likely they were both married before 1910. In 1900 they were living in the household of their uncle, Theodore H. and Lucy J. (Pendleton) Davenport. Any help appreciated. Bill Hunter
