The paragraph below was a reply I made to the email on the Museum. It has been blocked as they say it is to big so will provide only my reply with another string. The one it was on may show up later. It said: People this is some of the things I have been flapping my jaws about this week. I'll not go over the same things I did earlier this week but just let me give you an example. How would you like to have available to you that card file you mentioned. I know the one the last time I saw it which was several years ago. Would you like that card file on line? But you see you can't have it because as far as I know it doesn't exist on line. It could but it would have to be done locally. Like I say I won't even try to repeat my previous emails but put your minds to work and think of all the things you would like to see on the web that are available and a copyright does not exist for. I'm new enough to genealogy and technology so that my "want list" may not be practical but here goes. Any card file or county history online would be a great tool. However, rather than viewing someone's transcription (which takes time and could contain typing errors), I prefer to view (and download) scans of originals. Scanning wouldn't take near the amount of time and once scanned, could be managed anywhere. Originals look so much nicer in family books than modern typed copies. Someone "in the know" told me that scans would be difficult to view online for those with dialup (I remember those days!). I too believe that Lawrence County holds secrets to my family's past and would love to be able to research online. -----Original Message----- From: molawren-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:molawren-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jerry Johnson Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 1:13 PM To: Rootsweb Lawrence MO Subject: [MOLAWREN] On Line People this is some of the things I have been flapping my jaws about this week. I have the Mt. Vernon High School year books from 1953-1961 if any of you would like information from them please e-mail me directly at lisah@thegroup.cc.
I'll add to your wish list that in addition to scanned images, it's nice to have a searchable index (like the census images and indexes out there on Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest). - Heather http://surgerysupport.uchicago.edu/hblair/ On Mon, 30 Apr 2007, Dale Ratcliffe wrote: > I'm new enough to genealogy and technology so that my "want list" may not be > practical but here goes. If you want to see a site with a bunch of dedicated volunteers, look no further than Barry County. I submit info to this site--http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/barry.htm and I work full time and have a disabled wife. Here's my big secret: I have no relatives in this area, and I live in Aurora. However, I work mainly in Barry County, and my job affords me the opportunity to drive all over the place. Even a little time and effort could make a world of difference to someone researching their family. I've had it happen, and it makes me feel pretty good when I knock down a "brick wall" for someone. jay trace --- Jerry Johnson <jwjohnson8750@yahoo.com> wrote: > The paragraph below was a reply I made to the email > on the Museum.
