My parents are so great about volunteering. Working on Sycamore cemetery in Miller, and at the hospital,golf course, and doing taxes for the elderly here in Kansas City. They are much better people about giving their time than I am. It is funny, we just were talking about his over the weekend. My family that live in Lawrence Co. have no interest in genealogy, that I am aware of. My Uncle Paul Ray did and I know he spent a lot of time researching the Harold Bell Wright part of his family. I am trying to find out if his daughter or grandson have that research. I know they both do research. But one is busy volunteering for the Wilson Creek Battle Field. And the other is busy being governor for Missouri so I don't think they are actively doing research right now. But I know one of them has his files. He died a year and a half ago. What a loss with his death of so much Barry and Lawrence County history. I am talking about the museum in Mt. Vernon, Mo.. At the Jones Memorial Chapel. I always tell my family go see this museum. And drag as many family members as possible. Most of the people that live in that area and are related to me have never gone to it. And it is full of very interesting items. And stories. The volunteers there are wonderful. Makes you wonder how some of those items made there way to Mt. Vernon , Mo.. My mom grew up in Mt. Vernon not too far from Summit church. She is a Hood. I use to love to go antiguing in Halltown when we would visit. I get a mailing from a gentleman that lives in Miller once a week by email. He travels the backroads in that area writing a story a week and sends a photo with it. Very charming. Last week was on Phelps and Route 66. The week before the spring. Robina, I zeroed in on your mention of Summit Cemetery in Lawrence Co, MO. I have family buried there and have tried to obtain cemetery records to no avail. I am wondering if you know if Summit Church or anyone else has those records? I talked to folks at the Courthouse, who BTW, helped me greatly with land and marriage records, and wrote to the church even, but received no response from them. My great great grandmother, Elizabeth Dale Burton, is buried at Summit, along with her granddaughter, Rebecca Vermillion, and grandson, John C. Vermillion. The parents of those children were Zachariah Vermillion and Mary Catharine Burton Parker Vermillion. I feel certain those parents (my great grandparents) should be buried there as well since they lived nearby even as late as 1895, but have not been able to locate any records to indicate that. They lived on my great great grandfather's land, Samuel M. Burton, near Summit Cemetery and Church. I would love to find out who to contact that may have Summit Cemetery records....the older ones prior to 1911. Thanks for any suggestions you might have. I feel certain those parents (my great grandparents) should be buried there as well since they lived nearby even as late as 1895, but have not been able to locate any records to indicate that. They lived on my great great grandfather's land, Samuel M. Burton, near Summit Cemetery and Church.
