    1. Re: [MOLAWREN] Trail of Tears
    2. I can tell you that the Old Wire Road took a northeastern direction from Arkansas through Cassville, Mo.and continued towards the Crane creek area just west of Crane, Missouri. The wire road travels in the northeast direction by the Oak Grove School and Cemetery. The school is no longer there, but the cemetery is located approximately 2 miles north of Crane to about the A highway and west a quarter of mile. (The Missouri Conservation owns a large chunk of land that also is just southwest of the school and cemetery location.) From there it goes across highway 413 and continues towards the McCord Ranch, where the Butterfield Stage Coach once stopped. It is in this area that I and my family lived. From there it continues to go in a northeastern direction towards Springfield, Missouri, where the battle civil war took place at Wilson Creek. At one point, the road split near the Shiloh Church area but joined again as it continued towards Clever, Missouri. Some of us a few years ago, walked as much of it as we could and traveled by car to see other locations where the road goes. At that time, we could tell some of the signs that there had been a well-traveled road. As a member of the Stone County Historical Society, I helped with Book One of the history of Stone County, in gathering and writing history of Stone County. Many of the writers such as Fern Angus are no longer with us, but they have put their heart and soul into preserving the history of Stone County. Hope this will help with some information about the Old Wire Road. Betty J. (Martin) Henry ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone.
