    2. HILLHOUSE Union Civil War Soldier Pension Records: Lawrence County, Missouri Lt. Robert Stevenson Hillhouse: 1st Lieutenant in Co. A of the 76th Reg’t EM (Enrolled Militiia). He enrolled 12 August 1862 at Mount Vernon, MO. Ordered to active duty 19 Aug 1862 at Mount Vernon by General Brown and relieved from duty 31 March 1863 by General Holland. Lieutenant Hillhouse had 180 days of “actual service.” He was the Battalion Quarter Master for 58 days. Robert returned to service 25 September 1864 and was relieved from duty 15 Nov 1864 with 36 days of “actual service.” In total, he was in “actual service” for 218 days. Following are other Hillhouses who enlisted in Lawrence County, served as Union soldiers in the Civil War, and applied for pensions (note: I have checked the book, A Genealogy of the Hillhouse-Dickey Families, 1639-1972, by Bessie Hillhouse Young and Ruth Mackey Young, to establish their relationship to Robert Stevenson Hillhouse, my husband’s 2G-grandfather): George S. Hillhouse; widow, Samantha E. Hillhouse; Co B 7th Provisional Enrolled Missouri Militia (Prv ENMM). He applied for a pension 10 June 1880 >From Missouri, application number (AN): 372972, certificate number (CN): 233656. (FHL #540973). George Stevens, son of Elijah Boyd Hillhouse, nephew of Robert Stevenson Hillhouse. James A. Hillhouse; Co. A 76th ENMM. He applied for a pension 16 May 1892 from MO; AN 1115834; CN: not recorded (N/R). (FHL #540973). James Alexander, son of Elijah Boyd Hillhouse, nephew of Robert Stevenson Hillhouse. James H. Hillhouse; sgt. Co I or J 2nd Missouri Light Artillery (MOLA); widow, Margaret E. He applied 21 June 1867 from MO; AN: 126799; CN: 104324. She applied for a Widow’s Pension 10 Oct 1883 from MO; AN: 309753; CN; 365851. (FHL #540973). James Harvey, son of James Dobbins Hillhouse, nephew of Robert Stevenson Hillhouse. John R. Hillhouse; Co A 76th ENMM and Captain S. Jennings Co D Missouri Home Guard (MHG), Lawrence Co. Also Co. I 2nd MO LA. He applied 11 Oct 1887 from MO; AN 625561; CN 498607. (FHL #540973). John Randall Hillhouse, brother of Robert Stevenson’s younger brother. Levi G. Hillhouse; Co. B Lawrence Co. MOHG, Co A 76th ENMM, Co. 5 7th PrvENMM, and Co. F 2nd MOLA. (FHL#540973). Levi Gibson Hillhouse, son of James Dobbins Hillhouse, nephew of Robert Stevenson Hillhouse. Whew! Hopefully, the above information, even if accessed from the List archives, will help Hillhouse researchers who want to pursue these Civil War pension records.
