Kathleen, As it turns out your son-in-law and I are distantly related by marriage. If you will check out the Rootsweb World Connect project for Bruce Hiatt at: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:3289503&id=I626103567 you will find a lot of additional information about this ancestry back to the early 1700s on some lines and their participation in the Revolutionary War. He has identified Richard Cunningham who married Elizabeth "Betsy" Franklin as the son of William Cunningham and Martha Blair, who also had a son named Shadrach Cunningham and other children. He has identified Elizabeth "Betsy" Franklin as the daughter of Shadrach Franklin and Judith Taliaferro. Shadrach Franklin was the son of Bernard Franklin and Mary S. "Polly" Cleveland. And that's where the connection to me comes in. Shadrach's younger sister, Mary Catherine Franklin married Robert Nall. And their sons Abner Franklin Nall and William Holloway Nall married sisters, Matilda and Eliza Moore. Matilda and Eliza Moore were the daughters of Ewell Moore and Nancy Creed Moore. Ewell Moore was the brother of my great, great, great, great grandfather John Moore, both sons of Rodeham "Rodey" Moore and Elizabeth Gallahue Moore. There is a lot of information on Mr. Hiatt's website about these families, but he does not have any further information on Barnard Columbus Franklin. And, of course, you always need to verify information that you find on the internet just like you need to verify information you receive from others or find in records. Ross Cameron >>> Ross.Cameron@nara.gov 5/8/2007 3:14 PM >>> Kathleen, Richard Cuningham [should be Cunningham] married Elizabeth Franklin on 18 Feb 1833 in Surry Co., North Carolina. Richard Cunningham is a head of household in the 1840 Surry Co. Census. In 1830, there is only one head of household surnamed Cunningham and that is Mary Cunningham. There are several heads of household surnamed Franklin in the 1830 Surry Co. Census. One of them is named Shadrack Franklin. In the 1880 Census, only three houses from the Bernard Cunningham family is Shadrack Cunningham, age 37, born N.C.; his wife, Martha, age 18, born Ark.; and his mother, Elizabeth Cunningham, age 74, born N. C. I suspect it is highly likely that Shadrack and Bernard are brothers, Elizabeth is their mother, Elizabeth "Betty" (Franklin) Cunningham, and Shadrack is named after his grandfather Shadrack Franklin. But this is speculation. He could be named after a great uncle or someone else. And Shadrack's mother could be another Elizabeth Franklin other than Richard's widow. But these are clues or suggestions to research further. Also found: World War I Draft Registration Card. Robert Berry Cunningham R. If you have not sent a message to MOGREENE, then you should do so. You should also check Clear Creek Cemetery in Greene Co. as indicated below. >From Social Security Death Index online: CLAUDE CUNNINGHAM 02 Oct 1912 23 Sep 1994 65738 (Republic, Greene, MO) (none specified) 499-07-6064 Missouri JEWELL CUNNINGHAM 10 Sep 1908 Sep 1982 65738 (Republic, Greene, MO) 65738 (Republic, Greene, MO) 491-05-9590 Missouri Bernard Claude Cunningham was living with his widowed mother, Lucy, and two sisters, Maudie and Marie, in Center Township, Greene Co., Missouri in 1920. His father Robert B. Cunningham died 31 Jan 1919 in Greene Co. and his death certificate is online at the Missouri State Archives Death Records Index and Certificates website at: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/ The death certificate says Robert was born Jan 31, 1883, in Lead Hill Arkansas father was B. C. Cunningham, born North Carolina mother was M. V. Filler, born East Virginia buried at Clear Creek Cemetery, Greene Co. informant Ed Cunningham, Elwood, Mo. Lead Hill, Ark., is on Bull Shoals Lake, a few miles south of the Missouri-Arkansas border in Boone Co., Ark. Keep in mind that the information on death certificates is not always completely accurate because of memory losses and grieving. There are two Lucy Cunningham's who died in the 1940s in Greene Co., but those certificates are not yet available on line. However you may order them as described on the webpage. I would check Clear Creek Cemetery first because Lucy is probably buried by Richard. Robert, Lucy, Maudie, and Marie are in Center Township in 1910 along with some of Robert's older brothers, William, Ed, and Barney, living nearby. Robert's brothers William and John Ed (also siblings Elizabeth, Richard, and Lucy J.) are with his parents, Bernard and Martha, in Sugar Loaf Township, Boone Co., Arkansas in the 1880 census. I believe that Robert's father's death certificate is also online: Barney Columbus Cunningham died 25 Oct 1911, Center Twp., Greene Co., Mo. born 14 Apr 1845, North Carolina Minister of Gospel father Richard Cunningham, born North Carolina mother, Betty Franklin, born North Carolina informant, Homer Cunningham, Elwood, Mo. bur. Thank you all so much for the information on the Cunningham family! Boy will I be busy this weekend. Next weekend I will be in Springfield area and will be able to go to the Library. Will that be the best place to find obits? I will be in Missouri to visit children and grandbabies Memorial Weekend and want to show Carver his "family" then. Maybe I can interest him into taking me to the cemeteries there. Carver thinks his mother-in-law's "habit" is a bit weird - but maybe this will "show him the light" ha ha I know there is hope for him - he named his daughter after his great great grandmother, Cynthia Jewell Brashers. Once I compile all this info I will be happy to share with others. Thanks again, Kathleen
