Those bushwhackers were pretty horrible during the War. Our family has a legend that my 2g-grandfather (John William Motley, 1842-1922) avoided being killed by bushwhackers after being captured by the CSA and released (minus his gun) by lying down next to a log and covering himself with leaves. The bushwhacker stood on that very log, but didn't stumble across my 2g-grandfather and we descendants are here to tell the story. - Heather http://surgerysupport.uchicago.edu/hblair/ On Wed, 2 May 2007, Eleanor Prieskorn wrote: > Heather, many people left in 1860/1861 do to the upset and the Civil > War starting, and there were many that moved to Texas, > In 1861 my Gr GR grandfather Clem Davis was killed by citizens > (also called Bushwhackers) he was buried almost the spot where he was killed > Old Wire Road, it was said he was killed by the Reb's in a fight, but he was > turned over to the Bushwhackers and killed.
