    3. I am going to try and throw this out in case there is anyone who might have some idea what I can do. My great great grandfather John McGehee lived in Lawrence county Mo - Mt Vernon. He was the only John McGehee that I can find in the area at the time, and I also know that his probate record was dated for 1858 where he was listed as a "nonresident" of Mo. I found an indictment for Murder in the records of Lawrence county Mo, for John McGehee in 1857. He asked for a change of venue and was apparently transported to Jasper county where his trial was to be held. The records stated that he didnt think he could get a fair trial in Lawrence county, so whatever he was accused of must have been pretty serious, and well known. The trail goes completely cold. THere is no record of this that I can see in Jasper county Mo. I contacted Jasper county, and they said some of thier records were in the state capitol being copied, and the capital didnt have any records for this that I could find either. SO... is there anyone in either place, Jasper or Lawrence county that might have some idea of what this murder was or where I could find out about it? I found two of John McGehees kids in Grayson county Texas in 1859-1860, and the rest of them there from 1865-1880 in some form. I suspect they all moved there after John was indicted. I also found that there was a John McGehee who got married in Grayson county in the early to mid 1860s, and possibly it was him - but there is no way to know.
