    3. Hi Dobie, The State Historical Society of Missouri in Columbia has microfilm of the Monett Star (daily), Apr. 10-1906-May 8, 1911 and the Monett Times (weekly), Jun 25, 1903-Jun 21, 1907, which should cover the news. I don't remember seeing a specific date (month and day) for this incident in the emails. The SHSM also has microfilm of the Monett Times (daily) for 1939 until recent years, but the pre-1939 issues are incomplete and don't start until July 7, 1908. You can borrow this film on interlibrary loan. See the SHSM website <www.system.missouri.edu/shs/> for more information. The other Lawrence County newspapers available for 1906 are: Lawrence County Chieftain, Lawrence County Record, Mount Vernon Era, Marionville Free Press, Stotts City Sunbeam, and Peirce City Southwest Journal [this paper starts Jun 1, 1906]. The McCanse Library in Mount Vernon has copies of the microfilm of some of the Lawrence County newspapers. I would think that the Springfield newspapers as well as the Cassville, Neosho, Carthage, Joplin, Webb City, etc. newspapers, should have coverage of the Monett incident, too. Hope this helps you find some sources. Ross Cameron >>> Obie01@aol.com 08/15 10:30 AM >>> Hi Judy, I emailed the newspaper in Monett and asked about racial riots in 1906. The assistant editor denied Monett ever having racial trouble and said the only problem was with the railroad. However,my grandfather said they were sent to put down racial riots in Monett and were not allowed off the train. He was in Springfield the day after the lynching's. A volunteer at the Springfield Library sent me copies of all the newspaper articles about the lynching in Springfield. The first story covers the entire front page of the paper and there were many follow ups, including the investigation and arrest of the leaders. It was horrifying to read and exactly as my grandfather told it.The reporter went into great detail. Another family researcher, who visited Monett four years ago ,and met the editor of the Monett newspaper, told me editorials had been written about the 1906 incidents in Monett ,in recent newspapers. However, the assistant editor said no articles had been written at anytime in the present. Are the Monett newspapers on microfilm?
