Hello Lawrence Co searchers, I am going to submit my Gates line one more time before unsubbing in a few weeks for extended vacation. I am searching for information on the Simpson Franklin Gates and Sarah Jane Noss line. Frank was born Jan 17 1837 in Indiana. I believe Sarah may have been born in Lawrence Co, I have her date of birth as 19 Feb 1842 in MO. Frank and Sarah married in Mt Pleasant, Lawrence Co on 5 Mar 1858. They remained in Lawrence Co through the end of the civil war, By 1870 the family was in Randolph Co AR. Frank and several of his brothers, uncles, cousins and perhaps even Michael Gates, father of Frank, fought with the MO 6th Cavalry "Co H", a confederate outfit. When the war ended they apparently decided it would be prudent to leave Lawrence Co. I believe that their unit spent much of the war in AR. Perhaps that was why they later settled there. James Henry Alford b. 16 Oct1868 Married 2 x Johnson, Bolin/Boling Marianna b. ?/d. ? George Marion b. 23 May 1873 Married Maudie Scott AR. Robert T. b. 2 Dec 1875 Married Malissa Bussell, AR Miles A. b. ?/d. ? Mary Elizabeth Matilda b. 15 Mar 1882 Married Charles P. Fender, AR Parents of Frank were Michael Gates, b. abt 1811 KY and Catherine "Caty Ann Cline Gates. Michael and Catherine married in 1830 in Sumner Co TN. The family lived in an unknown area of IN during the 1820-1830's. In 1850 they were found in the Wayne Co IL census prior to removal to Lawrence Co. Parents of Michael Gates were J.P. Gates, b. PA abt 1781 and Elizabeth Gates, b. NC abt 1784-1787. J.P. apparently died in IL or perhaps in route to Lawrence Co as I have been unable to locate death or burial site for him. Elizabeth is found in Lawrence Co in the 1860 census in the home of John Cline and Susanna Gates Cline. I find no trace of her after that...or of Michael and Catherine. I have searched the census records and looked for probate records with no luck. They do not appear on the Randolph Co AR census records with most of the children listed above..... I would like to learn Sarah's birthplace, When the Gates clan first arrived in Lawrnce Co, What happened to J.P., Elizabeth, and Michael and Catherine. Any help appreciated, Thank you.....
