Hi Connie, Emily Ellen HOOVER was the sister to my gr gr grandmother Sarah P. HOOVER. The Hoover's were a very large family with 21 children in all and I have just started my family pages for the Hoovers in Lawrence Co. When I have them finished I will be more than happy to send them to you. To answer one of your questions, both of Russell Mahaffey's parents had died before the 1880 census so that is why you do not find them listed. Here is the information that I have so far about Emily and Russell. I will try not to duplicate the information that Ross Cameron has already given. Ellen Emily HOOVER b:16 APR 1860,Crittenden Co,KY d:07 JUL 1896,Porterville,Tulare Co.,CA Parents: James Marion HOOVER, b: 04Feb 1831, Bell Buckle,Rutherford Co.,TN d: 04 Aug 1904 Granby,Stone Co.,MO Martha M. Hoover, 19 Oct 1882, by L. A. Dunlap, M. G.* *(family records indicate 15 Oct) I do not know where Hiram or Jane are buried as it is not listed in the Tombstone records but not every burial was recorded and they could have been buried on their own land. I was not going to research further on the children of Emily and Russell right now but you might try the CA Birth and Death records and find more information on them. Regards, Michelle M. Daniel ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am researching a Mahaffey and a Kenney family who are in Spring River Township in the 1880 census. Robert N. Kenney and his wife Martha. Robert is 61 and Martha is 57. I believe Robert is from Moniteau County. Also there is a Russ Mahaffey and his sister Sarah, who are living in the same township. Russ is25 and Sarah is 21. I believe they are the siblings of Margaret Clementine Mahaffey who married Abraham Jackson Kenney in 1879 in Lawrence Co. Margaret is 18 in the 1880 census. This seems a little strange that these three Mahaffeys would be there - seemingly parentless. Is there someone who can check the cemetery books for Mahaffey and also for the Kenney's? Thank you so much for your help. Connie ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Michelle: How wonderful!!! I went through the 1880 census again yesterday because someone said they found a Mrs. Mahaffey in the 1879 Township Book owning land. I could find all the neighbors she mentioned but even tho I would like to have found this woman, at least I know I did a good job of reading the census the first time <VBG> Do you know when the Mahaffey family arrived in Missouri? And, did they go directly to Lawrence County? Here's an interesting point, aside from the family, although I subscribe to several lists, especially in the geographic areas I have families in, I rarely post queries. One day at the FHC one of the librarians was telling me what wonderful help she has received from the RootsWeb Lists. I said that when I first subscribed to one or two, I posted initial queries and got no responses, so I hadn't bothered to post any more. Then, when I got to this point with these families - and needing some clues to point me in a more direct direction, that was when I decided to post. What a wonderful experience this has been. I am going to be in Salt Lake City for the conference in September. Then I will be back at the end of September and will have a few days to go to the Family History Library. Because I will be working on these families and looking at anything and everything they have on Lawrence Co., if I can do some lookups for folks while I am there, please let me know. I need to make restitution for all the wonderful help I received here. Connie
