    3. Hi Group, I have been away for quite awhile and am ready to zoom into genealogy again. I wrote to the National Archives for pension infor- mation on one of my grandfathers who was in the Civil War. According to the 1890 Special Census of Missouri for military folks he was listed as Thomas J. Larkins, yet my reply came back saying the people could not find anything on him. Do I just resubmit the information I have and keep trying or am I at a huge brick wall? Would love for someone to reply about this. My email is bildotcslr@murrieta.net Dottie

    3. Dottie, Perhaps he did not receive a pension . Also, most but not all pension records are on file at the Natl Arch in Washington, D.C. Perhaps your ancestor's record is on file in another federal agency located elsewhere. If that is the case they should have told you that. Do you have access to the Natl Arch Index on microfilm? You might want to check for various spellings (a handwritten 'L' can be mistaken for an 'S' or 'T'. Do you have the actual pension file numbers? If not, that is even more reason to check the index. We have all of the indexes at our FHC, but I won't be going there until next week (Tuesday or Wednesday). If you don't find the info before then, let me know and I will check the microfilm for you.
