Sam, Since you didn't say where you got the information that there was a William Gross in Lawrence County, I was guessing that the date and place of birth for William Gross which you cited is from his Social Security Record or the Social Security Death Index. With his date and place of birth, I was suggesting that you order a copy of William Gross's birth certificate for 1916 from Jefferson City, then you would get his parent's names. This might help you find him in the 1920 census record or in other records. Of course, his parents might have moved out of Missouri before 1920. Then with that you may be able to find him. Also, you could write to the Recorder's Office in Mt. Vernon to see if there is a marriage of a Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Gross in Lawrence County during 1930-44. I do not live in Missouri and am only using Lawrence County Records which have been published which I have purchased which are in my personal library. If you think any of my suggestions would be helpful in your search, you may pursue them. I do not have any of these records in my library. You would have to order birth certificates, marriage records, or newspapers to research as I have suggested.
