Vickie -- Yes, Lawrence CO, AR Territory -- in its 1819 borders -- did include part of Barry CO, MO. This all changed in 1836, when, as a new state, AR's counties were first laid out and Lawrence CO, AR became dramatically smaller, bordering MO west of the bootheel. If your ancestors were in Lawrence CO, AR after 1836, then they must have travelled eastward. Just a guess, but it's not unlikely that your people DID move around (this was all frontier country, remember?), and those in Barry CO, MO could have ended up in Lawrence CO, MO without going very far -- just a very short way north. I'd suggest that if you have any evidence, at all, that they were in Lawrence CO, MO, that you continue to pursue them there. Somebody on the Stone County list is currently throwing a fit over similar surnames and given names; this item gives you reason to throw a fit over similar county names. At least we didn't name them all George. -----Original Message----- From: Vickie Lomon <lomon@junct.com> To: MOLAWREN-L@rootsweb.com <MOLAWREN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, June 10, 2000 11:53 PM Subject: Re: [MOLAWREN-L] Lawrence CO, AR >Thank you so much for your reply and help, and the earliest I find my Chisum >family in Lawrence county,Ark. is 1827, 1829 and 1834 up to 1850, >Are you saying in your first paragraph Lawrence county, Ark. in 1819 was a >small part of Barry county, MO. in 1827?
