    3. Virginia, Sorry that you didn't get the earlier message. Glad you got it this time! And you got so much more on the Hendrix family which I didn't know you were looking for the first time. Obviously, you should find a lot more about this Hendrix family in Lawrence County marriage and census records. And there are probably descendants still living in the area. Ross >>> Virginia Dietz <davdietz@ghg.net> 06/23 11:20 PM >>> Ross, thank you so much for the information about my Hendrix family!! You may remember last April Liberty Co. Texas had very severe thunderstorms. At that time we had a lightening strike that knocked out my computer. It took some time but my grandson finally got my computer going again. However, I lost all my e-mails! One must have been your response to my original querie. Thanks again for your help, my Hendrix family is now complete! Virginia Dietz davdietz@ghg.net ---------- From: Ross Cameron[SMTP:ross.cameron@arch2.nara.gov] Sent: Friday, June 23, 2000 10:49 AM To: MOLAWREN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MOLAWREN-L] Re:Harriet Hendrix Logan, Marionville Cemetery Virginia, When I saw this inquiry, I thought it sounded familiar. You had written me privately about this on Friday, April 21. Apparently you did not receive my response to you on April 24 which provided information on your question. I will forward it to you privately, but "paste" in my response to your earlier inquiry here. Plus I have some answers to the new questions which you raised in today's inquiry -- like Harriet's parents names, Andrew and Tempa and their birth and death dates which follow the previous response. ***********previous message begins************** Dear Virginia, The actual tombstone data from the Lawrence County Tombstone Inscription volumes are not available online. The books can be purchased from the Lawrence County Historical Society and are listed on the Lawrence County Web Page under Lawrence County Historical Society Publications. Volume 5 is for Buck Prairie Township in which Marionville is located. The index for Volume 5 lists eleven pages for the surname Logan. The first page listed (p. 6) is for the old old part of the Marionville IOOF Cemetery and includes several Logans the last group of which is: Logan, Julia w/o John Logan 8 Apr 1844 - 18 Nov 1919 next two names on same stone John, 1837-1914 Harriet, 1840-1883 base no stone I presume that the Harriet above is your great grandmother on the same stone with her husband John. Julia was his second wife whom he married after Harriet's death as indicated by the 1900 Census for Buck Prairie Twp., family 19: John Logan Oct 1837-62 Yr. M-15 Tn. Tn. Tn. Farmer Julia Mar 1843-57 Yr. 1-1 Tn. N.C. N.C. Ellis (m) Jan 1881-19 Yr. Mo. Tn. Mo. Etta (f) Jan 1887-12 Yr. Mo. Tn. Mo. And Lawrence County Marriage Book D, p. 226: Logan, John to Julia Stacy, 1 Apr. 1884, by A. J. Smithson, M. G., at Marionville. The other group of Logans on that page and just before the above group are: Fannie L and Maude M., daughters of W. B. and Lavina Logan; Permelia (1817-1869) and William (1814-1877) on the same stone; Hettie (1828-1876) Permelia F., dau. of R. & E. Logan Jane Bryant, wife of R. Bryant, dau. of Wm. & P. Logan Jasper, son of Wm & P. Logan Virginia V., dau. of J. B. & M. J. If you need the dates on these children and one young woman who died, I can send them later. I also have an abstract of John Logan's obituary from the 10 Sep1914 Aurora Advertiser if you don't have it and are interested. I hope this answers your question and helps. Ross Cameron >>> Virginia Dietz <davdietz@ghg.net> 04/21 11:14 PM >>> Dear Ross, I saw your message to Georgia and have a question for you. I have been tracing my gr. grandmothers roots. Her name was Harriett Hendrick Logan, I know she died May 18, 1883 and was buried in the Marionville Cemetery. I had talked to several Logan family members in the past and I understood she had a very large tombstone that had been turned over by teenagers several years ago, so I can not get any info. from it. I understood it would take a crane to set it upright, as far as I know this has never been done. I was hoping you could clue me in on the Lawrence Co. Tombstone Inscription volumes. Can these be reached via the internet? If I must call or write, who must I contact. Thanks for your help. Virginia Dietz davdietz@ghg.net **********previous message ends*********** Unfortunately, this only gives a year of birth and only her first name, so your questions are not answered by the tombstone. However you might try to contact the "sexton" or "record-keeper" for the Marionville IOOF Cemetery, probably some officer in the Marionville IOOF Lodge, because the cemetery record books sometimes have more complete information than what is on the stone. At least they do for the Mount Vernon IOOF Cemetery. I also did a quick check of the Lawrence County death register for 1883-1893, but her name does not appear there. And I did not find an obituary in the newspaper abstracts index. EUREKA! The answer to her parents names are in the 1860 Lawrence County Census below: 1860 Census, Missouri, Lawrence County, Buck Prairie Township, family 918: Hendrick, Andrew, 45, farmer, Tenn. Tempa, 45, Tenn. [often a nickname for Temperance] William, 17, Tenn Jackson, 13, Mo Lafayett, 11, Mo John, 6, Mo Ellis, 4, Mo Logan, John 22, inmate, Tenn. [inmate means not a child of the head of family] Harriet, 19, Tenn. This is a transcription so you should check the census microfilm yourself to verify the above. However, it appears that John and Harriet who were married in Apr. 1860 in Lawrence County first lived with her parents. Andrew and Tempa are old enough to be her parents. Because the sons Jackson, age 13 and Lafayett, age 11, were reported as born in Missouri, I checked the 1850 Lawrence Co. census, but the family is not listed. Perhaps they were living elsewhere in Missouri in 1850. You should check the 1850 Missouri Census Index for them. If you find them, you will probably find Harriet in their household at about age 9. It is possible that they were missed. I do know of families living in southwest Lawrence County who were omitted in the 1850 census. And you can confirm the spelling of the name from all of the Hendrix family buried at Marionville IOOF including Andrew and Tempa: on p. 7, Harriet's parents and brothers: Hendrix, William, son of A & T Hendrix, 2 Dec 1842 - 17 Sep 1861 John F., 5 Nov 1852 - 6 Mar 1888 Tempa, wife of A. Hendrix, 20 Oct 1820 - 1 May 1896 Andrew, 25 Jan 1816 - 22 Oct 1892 p. 2, Harriet's brother and nephew: Hendrix, A. J., died 19 Aug 1886, age 39 yrs, 10 mo. [Jackson in census] Oliver J., son of A. J. & L. E. Hendrix, 1 Dec 1882 - 26 Mar 1884 p. 5, another brother and wife: Hendrix, Lafayette, 10 Feb 1849 - 6 Jun 1921 Anna, 3 Sep 1854 - 4 Jun 1894 [same stone with Lafayette] p. 9, another brother and family, Old Part, Block 1, Lot 5: Hendrix, Clara E., 18 Jul 1902 - 8 Nov 1978 [same stone with Edd E.] Edd E., 15 Mar 1904 - 4 May 1959 Celestial Fay, 24 Jun 1898 - 7 Mar 1899 Lillian, 21 Feb 1868 - 14 Jun 1921 [same stone with Ellis N.] Ellis N., 8 Oct 1856 - 28 Oct 1925 [he may have been named after Ellis Neece, a well known Baptist minister in the area] p. 19, Old Part, Block 2, Lot 29: Hendrix, Winnifred, 18 Jan 1898 - blank Earl L., 7 Jan 1894, 19 Sep 1940 p. 89, New Part, Block 4, Lot 73: Hendrix, Jesse M., 1 Oct 1892 - 26 Feb 1966 Della E., 28 Nov 1892 - 27 Sep 1984 [same stone with Jesse] That is just about all of Harriet's family members' birthdays except for hers. And it adds a lot to your knowledge of her family. Ross Cameron >>> Virginia Dietz <davdietz@ghg.net> 06/23 10:31 AM >>> Kaye, I also have family buried in Lawrence County. Would you please look and see if you have a Harriett Hendrick Logan listed. Some of my family papers spell her maiden name Hendrick some Hendrix. She is buried in the Marionville Cemetery and died 5/18/1883. I am hoping to get the correct spelling of her name and her birthdate. I have been looking for years for her parents but to no avail, hopefully with a birthdate it will help.
