I was assuming it was drunken adults, but I suppose it could be teenagers or even younger children. Makes you want to put one of those cameras scientists use for taking pictures of tigers at night in the cemetery to catch the baddies. - Heather http://surgerysupport.uchicago.edu/hblair/ On Mon, 26 Mar 2007, Pat Miller wrote: > Please don't think I don't know about kids. Ross, Does this man have any information on people buried at Sycamore Cem. in Miller, Lawrence Co., Mo.? I still have a few blank spots on the mini bios I am putting together in my booklet on the people buried there. Also, a big thanks goes out to you and your family and all the folks at the Lawrence Co. Historical Society for all the help you give us with our research in and on Lawrence Co., Mo. We couldn't do it without you. Thanks. Thanks, Ross, for sharing such a wonderful story about Ray Gene Richardson with those of us in other states. My cousin and I visited Mt. Vernon in 2005 and spent quite some time in Maple Park Cemetery taking pictures of family headstones. Thanks to you and your directions, we were able to actually visit six cemeteries in one day and accomplish a great deal in documenting our family history. Maple Park was a beautiful cemetery and it's unfortunate that someone decided they had a right to violate the resting place of so many. If it was Vandals and not ground movement hope there caught really quick to bad we don't have public flogging bet that would change some bad behavior problems. A small cemetery I know had Vandals about every Friday so some people sit up video cameras and caught the villains in the act. 4 Full grown men youngest 41. I guess all of you know by now that those poor mistreated children are striking back, but you don't dare give them the attention on there back side that they needed when they were much younger. Thanks to our do-gooder (that probably never had a child)laws passed for the protection of the little monsters the kid yells and the parents are tossed in court. Teacher's, fired and if that does not work the little person yells sexual molestation, then the parent has to try and prove he or she is innocent, but by that time the reputation is gone, the kid is put in another home for it to happen all over again. Don't start in on me, I know there are real mistreated and molestation out there, there is a way to take care of those. When most of us were growing up we got our backside spanked and the fear of God would strike us down to do damage in a Cemetery, or any place else, most of the ones that do the damage most likely does not even believe in God. And I might add, for the child molester hang him or her until they rot. As for children seeing this, that would be up to the parent, not the State. Bet there would be a lot less molesters. Jay, This has happened at several cemeteries in Lawrence County over the past ten or more years. Jay and Ross, Several years ago the Marionville IOOF cemetery was vandelized and the pioneer part was almost completely distroyed. That was the part near the railroad tracks. Ross, noticed your mention of Patton and can't remember if I asked you about Nancy Patton 5-22-1770 NJ died 1-15-1855 Dade Co., Mo. She was married to Clayton Stockton. I do not have her burial place? Thanks, Kaye
I thought I'd share with you folks the fact that I drove by Maple Park Cemetery yesterday and I noticed that a tombstone had fallen over. With the ice storm we had in January and all of the really big branches that had come off of the trees, it was no surprise. However, when I drove through the cemetery, I noticed that there were a dozen stones, and I mean big ones, that had the stones knocked off of the bases. These were stones that I wouldn't be able to lift, much less put back. Most weren't near any trees, so it was obviously some snot-nose and his buddies that came around and kicked them over. I called the number that was in the phone book for the cemetery and left a message for the caretaker, but it's a shame. All but one were in the section that was directly facing Elliott Street, so they were pretty brazen. Luckily, I saw no broken stones. jay ____________________________________________________________________________________ No need to miss a message. Get email on-the-go with Yahoo! Mail for Mobile. Hi again cousin Pat, Sorry, since you said Lawrence Co., I did not check the other counties. The Barry County references are: p. 35: Aged Tax-Payers in 1860-61. -- The tax-payers in Barry County in 1860-61 who were over fifty-five years of age [I'm offended by over 55 being called "aged". Ha!] at the commencement of the War of the Rebellion are named as follows: . . . P. H. Trower, . . .. p. 58: Modern Townships: . . . Flat Creek Township was established in March, 1844, within the following described boundaries: from the fith crossing of Flat Creek near P. Trower's house, to William McKenney's house, including it, thence to the Taney County line near the head of Big Creek, . . .. Interesting but probably not much help. I also found a reference in Bill Lander's Barry County Probate Lettes, 1835-1853, p. 12: pages 119-121 [original book]: John Fennety [dec'd], John O Burton, Adm. Bond: $100., 1 March 1847, John O Burton, Principal, Isaac Newton, Jeremiah Parish and Pleasant H. Trower, Bondsmen. . . .. Not much help either. Have you looked for Pleasant Trower's probate records in Barry Co.? Did he die there? When? His heirs should be named in his probate records.
