Jack, If the obituary names his surviving family members, please send a transcription of it in the next email. That would help me to suggest how to search for additional living descendants other than the suggestions at the end of my detailed message. In the 1900 and 1910 Censuses, it is reported that Mary Anthony had had nine children and six were living. The only one still at home is Walter. Others are listed in 1880, shortly after they moved to Missouri from Oakland, Pennsylvania. 1870 Census, Pennsylvania, Armstrong Co., Mahoning Township, P. O. Oakland, Pa., 22 Jul 1870, p. 7, lines 5-7, dwelling 38, family 39: Logan, Patrick, 24, m, w, Co[a]l Miner, Ir[e]land, father foreign-born, mother foreign-born, mar. So there are the names of seven children: James, born Jul 1869, Pennsylvania Mary, born ca. 1870-71, Pennsylvania Margaret, born ca. 1872-73, Pennsylvania Michael, Jr., born ca. 1874-75, Pennsylvania Elizabeth, born ca. 1877-78, Pennsylvania Bridget, born Feb 1880, Missouri Walter H., born Jun 1886, Missouri There are at least two other children, probably who died young, though it is possible one or two of those above died before 1900. It is possible that a child born in the early 1880s had married and moved out. It is possible that the child who died reported below in the Funeral Home records was Michael's. Again the Catholic Church records in Pierce City would probably be helpful if they can be located. Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Bridget, and Walter were living in 1900 and 1910 based on the data below. So there is one other living that might be named in Michael's obituary. This does not count the adopted son Joseph reported in the 1910 census. 1910 Census, Missouri, Lawrence Co., Peirce Township, Forest Park Precinct, family 20: Michael Anthony head 69-yr M-42 Pa. Ire. In reading this, would the price of the book be $750.00 or $7.50? I would think $7.50 is the right price. Dear Jack, The 1974 History only lists his name and dates of service. There is no biography nor photo of him in that volume. As I mentioned below, there might be an obituary for him in the local newspapers. Perhaps someone in the Mount Vernon area can check the newspapers for an obituary. Searching for some mention of him in the newspapers during his election and service in office would probably require several hours reading the newspapers on microfilm. You would probably have to do that yourself by ordering the microfilm on Interlibrary Loan through your local library from the State Historical Society in Columbia, Missouri. Information on doing this is on their website: http://www.umsystem.edu/shs/newspaper.shtml Or you could go to Mount Vernon and read the microfilm at the library there. Or someone might take you up on your offer to pay for the research. It is highly unlikely that there would be a photo in the newspapers. There were very, very few obituaries with photos at that time and probably no photos in the newspapers at the time he was in office. I did not find a published abstract of an obituary nor a probate record for Thomas Anthony. However, the Peirce City Empire newspaper for 1887 is available on microfilm from the State Historical Society of Missouri in Columbia. It is also available at the McCanse Library in Mount Vernon. 1890 Special Census of Veterans, Missouri, Lawrence Co., Peirce Township, Peirce City, [p. 3], line 5: Anthony, Michael, 105 Pa Inf. [Note: Apparently he ran unopposed for Public Adminstrator.] The 1974 Lawrence County History shows him serving as Public Administrator, 1884-1886. However, the list in the 1974 History gives dates which are consistently two years earlier than the Election results for Administrator in Goodspeed. The only other mention of the Anthony family in Goodspeed's is on p. 99 where Teresa Anthoney is listed as one of many women on the bell committee for St. Patrick's church. The bell was received in the spring of 1888. Ross Cameron >>> jackare@netscape.com 03/29/05 01:27PM >>> Hi listers I amseeking infornationon the subject family. Hi Jack, The Anthony/Anthoney family is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Peirce/Pierce City. According to Thomas's tombstone, he was born in Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland. Lawrence County, Missouri, Tombstone Inscriptions, Vol. 9, Pierce City, Western Pierce Township, St. Patrick's Cemetery, p. 82: Anthoney, Michael, 18 Feb 1844 - 30 Nov 1916, same stone with Mary M. William, 31 Mar 1882 - 21 Sep 1883, son of M. & M. John J., 2 June 1859 - 21 May 1931, same stone with Jessie C. Mother, 1871 - 1913 Father, 1871 - 1937 You should check with St. Mary's Catholic Church, 200 Front Street, Pierce City, MO 65723-1263, phone 417-476-2827, to see if someone there knows what happened to St. Patrick Church's records. According to Goodspeed's 1888 History, Lawrence Co. section, p. 56: Elections, 1886. -- . . ., Administrator, Michael Anthony, 2,043. . . . This is a newspaper story found in the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin (Washington) 6 June 1951 Pioneer Meet At Sacajawea Pasco (WA) ---- The annual Franklin county pioneers picnic was held 3 June at Sacajawea Park with over 150 old timers and their families in attendance. They meet at noon with a potluck dinner and afternoon of visiting. Out of county attendants were: Mr & Mrs Nye Anderson of Merced, Calif. Mr & Mrs Murry Anderson, Mrs Regina Hezel, the Emil & Bill Hezels & families; Seattle (WA) Mrs Alma Potter, Mr & mrs Kent Rissell of Centralia (WA) Mr & Mrs Ed Anderson, of The Dalles, (OR) Mr & Mrs Bob Allstott, Mr & Mrs M. (John) Bray, of Hermiston (OR) Mr & Mrs Ben Harley & daughter Maxine & her family of Spokane (WA) Mr & Mrs Don Johnson of Pomoroy (WA) Mr & Mrs Lin Colley of Sunnyside (WA) Mr & Mrs George Colley of Outlook ( ) maybe (WA?) Bill & Ed Means & Dan Colley of Milton (OR) Mr & Mrs Jack Bailey & Mrs Ia Green of Yakima Mrs Lena Bearden of Fresno, Calif I think this is about the yearly Love-Anderson-Colley family picnic, which is held ever year in the Sacajawea Park in the Pasco, WA. area. The picnic has been going on for years and I believe most of the family are related to the early John B. Love family, who were from Lawrence co., MO and were early pioneers in the Pasco, WA area. My family being, Bob Allstott.
Deb, How interesting. I don't live in that area, but my family is from Aurora and I know some of the lore. One thing I know about is that people who were identified as "Indian" were not allowed to be buried in the "White" cemeteries. They were usually buried outside the wall or edge of the cemetery. Maybe that is what was meant by "over the wall." We are somewhat related to the Shipman families of Lawrence County and from what I have been told, there was Indian blood in the family. Do you know what time frame you're talking about? Wilma: I have also done some looking to try to find information on the Malinda Yoakum, b. about 1837, who married Joseph Poland. I'm wondering if Yoakum might not have been Malinda's original name but possibly she had been married to a Yoakum first before she married Joseph. I'm also wondering if she was connected to the Elizabeth Yochum, b. about 1836, who was married to Joseph Poland's son, John Henry Poland. From what I have found, Elizabeth was probably the daughter of Levi and Mary Patterson Yochum of Stone Co., MO. It looks like this Mary was the sister of Still Patterson who is buried in the Round Grove Cemetery and Thomas Patterson, buried in the old Aurora Cemetery, who was the third husband of my g-g-aunt, Atlanta Hunt Henson Crouch Patterson.
