    3. Well I got the answer I made to Linda back in my spam box and so thought I would put it out on the listing to prevent y'all from responding to it when you read it. The auto response wanted me to provide some information so the address would accept my email. I laughed at this one harder than I did at the Brad Pitt emails. Linda seems to have a sense of humor afterall. Take Care and Happy Hunting. Jerry Wade Johnson ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: Jerry Johnson <jwjohnson8750@yahoo.com> To: ljhs@infionline.net Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2007 9:17:05 AM Subject: Humor Golly Linda. I got a big kick out of the humor in the whole situation. When you see something you don't like do what I do. Hit the delete button. I even changed the subject line for you and replied directly and not through the listing. Give us a big smile and Happy Hunting. 1. Re: [MOLAWREN] Volunteer Administration
    2. Jerry Johnson
    3. First of all I am not going to get into a BIG discussion about the GenWeb site. I will however address a couple of things that is in the response that I have been trying to get across and just can't seem to do so. I really find it hard to express the problem. Steve seems to be a volunteer to GenWeb. The GenWeb is not the official site for the Society. Placement of personnel administering the GenWeb seems to be at the approval of the Society. As I have said before I have been a long standing member of the Society and will remain so. As long as the Society does not have an official site, however, it does control major research information and I foresee this problem not being resolved. I was not trying to get the Society to give up their publications nor control of the publications but was trying to encourage the GenWeb to provide the place that volunteers can place items of information with the approval of an independant administrator and not needing or applying the wishes of the Society. Much to ask? Maybe. I will try to make this my last response on the issue. Just a couple more comments below >>the website of the Lawrence County Historical Society<<. See above and previous emails >>The problem lies in the fact that despite the Historical Societies search for a webmaster with more time available to them, they are unable to find someone<< See the above and previous emails >>You do not have to live in Lawrence County to provide volunteer web services to the organization<< The organization I will suppose to be the GenWeb. My point exactly however the administrator should have control as to what goes on the site. That was the whole point of all my correspondence. Even though I am in Germany I might be able to provide information that might be a help to someone else without giving it through email mailing list and it could be available to anyone that wants to sign into the site. An example was the picture I sent to Steve. I got numerous requests for a copy of the picture but I did not do so as that restriction is what I am trying to get put aside. >>Feel free to contact me and we can arrange a discussion with the LawCo board << Didn't know that the GenWeb has a LawCo board. I think my thoughts on this is contained above. Enough of my comments. I hope the ones reading this understand the issues that started this whole thing. It has been something that has bugged me for a long time and I have made gentle reference to it in the past and finally decided to meet it head on. Lastly I do agree with Steve that he has bitten off a lot to chew. Believe me if I were there I probably would not want to be administrator as long as the Society decides who, what and where. I think the administrator needs the independance and control of the site. The site by the way does not mean only this mailing list but the GenWeb site where information can be provided for anyone that wants to sign into it. Did I say Enough? The time has come to quit and get off the soap box and wish you all Happy Hunting. Hopefully something will come about to help a bit with research. At least I hope they will open the GenWeb for Lawrence County so we can provide information to be placed on the site. I am afraid that is just wishful thinking. Jerry Wade Johnson Response: Folks, for those of you who may not be aware, historical and genealogical organizations are generally volunteer organizations. That is what this message board is, a way for you to each share your research with each other, voluntarily. The same holds for the website of the Lawrence County Historical Society. As the web master and list administrator for both this organization and the Ozarks Genealogical Society, I can tell you that it's a balancing act when it comes to prioritizing time and money to achieve the greatest good. Jerry did share the photo he referenced earlier this week with me in January. As I shared with him then, I would add his submission to a list of items that will be added to the website. The website is not closed, despite his protestations. It is merely a slowly evolving tool for the members and visitors. I personally have two jobs and volunteer not only with the the genealogical organizations listed but also act as President of the Missouri Film Alliance of Springfield, an arts and economic development organization. Am I over committed? Probably. The problem lies in the fact that despite the Historical Societies search for a webmaster with more time available to them, they are unable to find someone. I live in Greene County, have NO connection to Lawrence County other then a desire to help a friend who is a member of the LawCo Board who was at wits end. I haven't done any personal genealogy research since I moved here five years ago. You do not have to live in Lawrence County to provide volunteer web services to the organization. I would be happy to work with any one or more of you with experience, time and desire to enhance this tool which as you have noted is a valuable one. Feel free to contact me and we can arrange a discussion with the LawCo board to come up with a plan that may better meet the needs of all involved. 3. Another actor related to many of us is (Mary) Janice Rule (a 3rd cousin to me). She starred in several movies during the 50s-80s, and was once married to Ben Gazarra, another well known actor of that era and later. She and Ben had a daughter, Elizabeth, born in the 60s. Janice is descended from the Neece, Logan, Terry, Bryant, and Butler lines of Lawrence Co., MO. 3. Pat here: I sure never picked up one tiny harsh tone. I loved the listing of Brad Pitts family names and where it could be found. I've taken the Lawrence County Bulletin for years. I think it is one of the best. Good research, new items, lots of print and in smaller print for such a few pages. [Always a new research book offered for sale and are they ever helpful and great priced.] So it is chucked full of good research and wonderful facts for us researchers or just interesting reading about history in the area. I take a number of quarter publications from other Gen/Hist Societies and you should see what they put out, big copies, full page, no write ups, family charts and old poems ca genealogy, that we have all read a million time....it is just filling the pages, no help. And no one can beat the asking price of being a member and the Bulletin. It is my second favorite one, Guilford Co., NC is my first! My grandfather Robert E. Allstott was born there in 1875, his family are the Kimmons, Love, McCray and many side-kicks! Thank you Ross, you help so many..... 3. ROSS, I only started to get the bulletin (which I love) about 3 years ago. Is there any plan of the Historical Society to publish a booklet of back issues for sale? I know I would be interested in buying such a booklet. Or are back issues available for sale now? I know they have some at the library in Mt. Vernon but there is never enough time on a visit there to get thru everything available. Thanks. 3. Shucks I must have missed the harsh tone. Guess I wasn't listening. Someone asked about back issues and the society has a back issue CD. You do not have to be a member of the Society to get any of their publications as far as I know. I have been a member for many years and have voiced (typed) my feelings about some things here lately. Hopefully something will come about to help a bit with research. At least I hope they will open the GenWeb for Lawrence County so we can provide information to be placed on the site. I am afraid that is just wishful thinking. I am not directly related to Brad Pitt and BTW his name is William Bradley Pitt and the last I heard his mother and brother and sister were still in the Springfield area. I always feel sorry for famous people as their private lives just go to pot. I guess I would not be eligible for a card since he is in the family book through marriage. Don't feel bad about not getting a card as I don't get one from Don Johnson and he is a second cousin once removed. You figure out what that relationship is. It always confuses me. Anyway just to not cloud the issue I am not writing with any tone but sometimes with a tongue in cheek. Keep smiling and Happy Hunting. 3. All, I'm sorry if the tone of my message seemed harsh to anyone. I wrote my message late last night and didn't notice until today, how it may have sounded to some. I didn't intend to be critical of anyone for not subscribing. My intent was to give a plug for the Bulletin, the Lawrence County Historical Society, and all the interesting stories and information that appear in the Bulletin. I wanted to encourage people to join and get the Bulletin. And Pat, your response did not generate my comments above. Your kind message was most appreciated. Simply re-reading my message in the "daylight" led me to decide that I should have worded it differently. Again, my apologies. 2. How interesting! I wasn't paying much attention to the Brad Pitt thread--until I read the surname Hillhouse! My husband's 2G-grandfather was Robert S. Hillhouse, who migrated to Lawrence County from Giles, TN, ca 1853. Robert's brother, James D. Hillhouse, wrote the diary that is posted to the Lawrence County web site. Robert's oldest daughter, Martha Caroline Hillhouse (my husband's great-grandmother), married James Houston Gibson in January 1869. 3. Pat and others, If you all had subscriptions to the Lawrence County Historical Society Bulletin in 1999, you would have Brad Pitt's maternal ancestry, as prepared Sep 1, 1999, by Fred G. Mieswinkel, and published in the Lawrence County Historical Society Bulletin, October 1999, p. 52 with additional notes on p. 53. mother - Jane Etta Hillhouse grandparents - Hal Knox Hillhouse and Clara Bell g-grandparents - Emery A. Hillhouse and Etta Coleman Williams - Finis A. Bell and Lenora J. Hammer g-g-grandparents - Elijah Boyd, Jr., Hillhouse and Malinda B. Morris - Henry Thomas Williams and Ida Mae Isbell - William Saterfield Bell and Sarah Elizabeth Neece - Felix Emery Hammer and Sarah Angeline Parker g-g-g-grandparents - Elijah, Sr., Hillhouse and Ann Gibson - Jordan Morris and Mary Button - Francis Coleman Williams and Sarah Greene Fullerton - Thomas Riley Isbell and Mique Ann Hardin Davis - Bell line not shown - Hardy Hopwood (later corrected to Holman) Neece and Alice Catherine Small - Enoch Lane Hammer and Susannah C. Newby - John Parker and Martha Cherry That is as far as the published chart showed and I'll let you all make the connections further back for your various families. My direct connections are Williams and Fullerton, back another generation, though I am related by marriage to other lines. To put some time frame to it, the g-g-g-grandparents were born between 1809 and 1838. Thank Fred, not me. A cousin sent me an obit from the Carthage People's Press, Jan 15, 1874, which does not mention a cause of death and says that he died at home. Another cousin claims that he was murdered by a carpetbagger. If did die a violent death, what court records should I look for? 3. We were staying at Oak Alley Bed and Breakfast in Natchez where we go alot. It was our anniversary and we were on our way to New Orleans. When we got there security was everywhere. They gave us a badge to wear. It was then we found out the filming crew and actors were staying there as well while filming Interview with a Vampire. Tom Cruise stayed in New Orleans and would fly in by helicopter for the midnight filming we would watch. My son and I talked to him but he was very abrupt. Ruined my opinion of him right away. I had only heard of Pradd Pitt in Thelma and Lewis. It was only later I found out he was the tall young man I was walking around with at Oak Alley. My son was with me. Everywhere we would go they would try and stop us because they were filming. I was going to a bird cage they had burned for the scene which was cut with my small son. They they to stop us even though it was morning. This time I got aggitated and told them we always go there for peace and quite before going to New Orleans and tlhey had interferred with that and I was taking my son to the scene whether they liked it or not. It upset my son and he said "Come on mom lets go." But I said " No, you wanted to see it and I will show it to you. " Pradd Pitt seemed very nice.
