    3. Does your Temple Stevenson connect to William Stevenson (1791- aft. 1860)? He immigrated to SW Missouri about 1840 but then left for Kansas a little before 1860. He had the following children with his first wife, Martha Dickey (1795-1837) (These aren't in order.) 1. Mary Stevenson (married James Bell Logan in 1843 in Barry Co.) 2. William Stevenson (married Adeline Meeks -- I may have a photo of her) 3. Malinda Stevenson (married John Alexander Hood in 1847) 4. Harvey Stevenson (1817 - 1856, married Frances Henry in 1846 in Lawrence Co.) 5. Martha Stevenson (married Jesse H. Fullerton in 1844 in Barry Co. These are my 3g-grandparents) 6. Jesse Stevenson (1837-1887, moved to Kansas) 7. Calvin Stevenson (b. abt. 1834. I believe he moved to Oregon.) William Stevenson then married Esther Young in 1842 in Jasper Co. and they had one child, Porter Stevenson (b. 1843. He moved to Kansas and married Levina Johnson in 1862) - Heather http://surgerysupport.uchicago.edu/hblair/ On Tue, 1 May 2007, Dennis wrote: > Jan: Last year I discovered that my gr-gr-grandmother, Temple Stevenson, > name actually--Louisa Temple Stephenson died in Lawrence County on 14 March, > 1910 and buried in the Summit Cemetery, on 15 March, 1910. 3. Mo. is trying hard to help us find our ancestors the death index, land some not put into the big land site(Sorry forgot its name) and now were working on the Penitary records and there interesting,Do you know they weighted the wife before and after each visit and measured the mans foot! Read below for a bit of information Brian sends to the volunteers each month.. Linda Currently we are attempting to transcribe many of our penitentiary records. Great progress has been made on the indexes of pardons and penal records issued by governors, but we still need help transcribing our indexes of prisoners received into the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City. These volumes contain a wealth of data regarding physical characteristics, as well as the familial and sentence information of these inmates. For a more detailed description of this project, please visit http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/penitentiary.asp. 1. Re: [MOLAWREN] Volunteering, Museum, Lawrence Co Summit Cemetery, Vermillion and Burton
    2. Dennis
    3. Jan: Last year I discovered that my gr-gr-grandmother, Temple Stevenson, name actually--Louisa Temple Stephenson died in Lawrence County on 14 March, 1910 and buried in the Summit Cemetery, on 15 March, 1910. I was at the library there and was given various phone numbers to contact people. It seems the earlier burial records were destroyed and someone finally told me that a road had been built through the cemetery at some point in time, and some graves ended up being south, across the east-west road and some graves are thought to have been buried underneath the road. The Missouri Death Certficate shows her as being buried there, so I console myself with the thought that I will never find her grave, but that the cemetery is well cared for, unlike so many old country cemeteries. However, rather than viewing someone's transcription (which takes time and could contain typing errors), I prefer to view (and download) scans of originals. Scanning wouldn't take near the amount of time and once scanned, could be managed anywhere. Originals look so much nicer in family books than modern typed copies. I know the one the last time I saw it which was several years ago. Would you like that card file on line? But you see you can't have it because as far as I know it doesn't exist on line. It could but it would have to be done locally. Like I say I won't even try to repeat my previous emails but put your minds to work and think of all the things you would like to see on the web that are available and a copyright does not exist for. Man what a tool. Happy Hunting. Jerry Wade Johnson

    3. My Samuel's middle name IS Marion, but he was born in about 1805 in Sussex Co DE. I did find him alive in 1901. I saw that Samuel M b 1876 in the census and think it might be my Samuel's grandson, but I didn't pursue that. Thanks for your efforts. I really appreciate it. These Burton's and Vermillion's have me really scratching my head. 3. My parents were married in the church. When they remodeled the church years ago My parents purchased one of the old church pews. They still have it. I will check my cem. books when I go home tonight and see what may be there. I am still at work right now. Your Samuel M. Burton isn't Samuel Marion Burton buried at Sycamore cem. in Miller, Lawrence Co., is he? b 3-9-1876, died 12-17-1930. son of Jarvis James Milo and Mary S. Hood Burton. There are a bunch of Burton's buried in Miller with this Samuel. -----Original Message----- From: molawren-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:molawren-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Jan Lopez Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 4:26 PM To: molawren@rootsweb.com Subject: [MOLAWREN] Volunteering, Museum, Lawrence Co Summit Cemetery,Vermillion and Burton Robina, I zeroed in on your mention of Summit Cemetery in Lawrence Co, MO. I have family buried there and have tried to obtain cemetery records to no avail. I am wondering if you know if Summit Church or anyone else has those records? I talked to folks at the Courthouse, who BTW, helped me greatly with land and marriage records, and wrote to the church even, but received no response from them. My great great grandmother, Elizabeth Dale Burton, is buried at Summit, along with her granddaughter, Rebecca Vermillion, and grandson, John C. Vermillion. The parents of those children were Zachariah Vermillion and Mary Catharine Burton Parker Vermillion. I feel certain those parents (my great grandparents) should be buried there as well since they lived nearby even as late as 1895, but have not been able to locate any records to indicate that. They lived on my great great grandfather's land, Samuel M. Burton, near Summit Cemetery and Church. I would love to find out who to contact that may have Summit Cemetery records....the older ones prior to 1911. Thanks for any suggestions you might have. 1. [MOLAWREN] Volunteering, Museum, Lawrence Co Summit Cemetery, Vermillion and Burton
    2. Jan Lopez
    3. Robina, I zeroed in on your mention of Summit Cemetery in Lawrence Co, MO.
