Hi List: I follow all of the posts on this list and find it a very busy and active list and enjoy reading all submitted. Robina, I collaborated with your mother on our lines a few years ago. It was fun and we had a good time. I started my search about 35 years ago and was very fortunate to meet and talk with some of the older relatives. They took me to cemeteries and talked about the family as they knew them, or heard of them, when they were children. (1900 or so) They also contributed to the data in the "Lawrence Co. History" - 1974. The museum was just beginning to collect material. (This just for anyone's information who might be interested) Through Ancestery.com I have found a Glenn F. Hood, born 25 Mar 1917 in Mo; died 27 May 1962 in San Bernardino Co., CA. He was listed in the California Death Index which stated his mother's maiden name was "Daver". I think this is the brother of Lloyd R. Hood and an error was made where "Daver" was read instead of "Gayer". Keep up the good work on this site. It is very interesting. Pat in OR

In the Lawrence County Record there was a notice of the death of Betty M. Loy Moore. She died in Aurora 8 April 2007. She was the daughter of Gene Henry Loy and Reitha Southworth and married to Donald Moore. Their children were Donald Jr., Richard, John and Julie. Barbara Marsh

Fannie and Ransom were the children of Edward Blades and Penelope Ellen Maynor (or Maynard and other spellings). Here are biographies of Ransom and his brother Edward and other records which provide information on the Blades family. EDWARD A. BLADES The farming class of America is notable for the degree of intelligence that is possessed among its representatives. Our subject belongs to one of the most progressive of families, and is proud of the fact that his father was one of those fast disappearing landmarks of a heroic past – an early pioneer. Mr. Blades was born in Monroe County, East Tenn., in 1830, but his parents, Edward and Ellen (Maner) Blades, were natives of North Carolina, where they grew to mature years and united their fortunes. In the year 1851 he married Miss Margaret Batson, a native of Ohio, and the daughter of Steven and Jane Batson, who came from Ohio to Greene County, Mo., at an early date, and here passed the remainder of their lives, the father engaged in farming. Blades, Sr. This old settler and prominent citizen is the son of Edward and Ellen (Maynar) Blades, and was born in McMinn county, Tennessee, January 29, 1821. He was the second child and oldest son. His parents were natives of North Carolina, but moved to Tennessee shortly after their marriage. In 1836, when Ransom was fifteen years of age, they came to Greene county, Missouri, and settled on section 10, township 28, range 24. Then that part of the county was settled by only two or three families, and to the southwest of them there were no neighbors nearer than forty miles. They went through all the hardships incidental to early pioneer life, and the wild, open country that they found upon arriving they redeemed from the wolves and foxes, and the glad earth yielded bountiful crops to bless the hardihood and pluck of these pioneers. The schools, both in the eastern part of Tennessee and here at that early day were poor and scarce, and Mr. Blades received but six wee! ks' schooling. But in the great school of experience he learned his lessons well, and in due time arose to be one of Greene's foremost citizens. In April, 1841, Mr. Blades was married to Frances, daughter of Samuel Garoutte, Esq. She belonged to that noted family of that name which appears frequently in these pages, and whose family history appears fully in other chapters. Their marriage was blest with eleven children. Mrs. Blades died March 17, 1863, and on June 14, 1863, Mr. Blades was married the second time to Mrs. Gillie S. Davis, nee Williamson [sic, Williams]. Before the war Mr. Blades had been a Democrat, but favored the Union and the winter of 1861-2 he spent in Kansas, because he was outspoken in his devotion to the Union cause, and the Confederates then had possession of the country. He has been a member of the Methodist church for twenty-seven years, and now in an old age full of honor, he enjoys the respect and confidence of all good men, He owns a magnificent ! farm, well stocked and equipped in all the modern improvements. Robina: There is an error in this and it is the same error that was in Lloyd's obit. in The Lawrence Co. Record, Aug. 16, 2006. Lloyd's first wife was Hildred Bowerman rather than Mildred Bowerman which was the way it was spelled in the obit. Hildred was a niece of my grandmother, Ora Bowerman West and a sister of Donna's mother, Pauline Bowerman Russell. Hildred and Pauline were the daughters of Willard and Della (Watson) Bowerman. Willard and Della are also buried in the Pennsboro Cemetery in Dade Co. as are many of my other Bowerman ancestors as well as Lloyd Hood. Thanks for the additional information. Kathleen, Yes, there is an excellent Local History & Genealogy Section at the Springfield Library Center on S. Campbell. They also have a website you should check out because some records and histories are online: http://thelibrary.springfield.missouri.org/lochist/index.cfm The Abstracts and Index of Items of Genealogical Interest from the Springfield, Greene County, Missouri, Newspaper collection is in the Local History and Genealogy Section. It is comprehensive index to obituaries, marriages, births and divorces from 1865-present. Some of the volumes have photocopies of the newpapers clippings in them, others are typed abstracts, and some give you references to the microfilm which is also there. There are also newspaper abstracts by others back to the late 1840s. The staff is very helpful. There are also cemetery records, funeral home records, marriage records, and many others for Greene County as well as other counties and states.
