    3. Dear Mr. Daughtrey, I do a lot of cemetery research in Barry County and something like 10% of the entries I've seen in the King Funeral Home books have burials in Barry County. How would a person get permission to use information contained in those books to help "flesh out" grave entries? I'm reluctant to buy the books unless I have a use for them, but I would do so. I think the compiler was Virginia Schmidt?!?!? jay trace --- Lawrence County Historical Society <lchs@mo-net.com> wrote: > Hey Pat, > We'll be open that Sunday from 1 to 4 pm. > The library in Mt. 1. [MOLAWREN] Neece sign in Miller, MO
    2. Gina and all, I don't know if it was Ellis Neece's family. It may have been his brother's family. My wife's father was Allen W. Neece. He was a descendant of Hardy Holman Neece (d. 7-14-1895 in Lawrence Co.) and when we were in Miller he took that sign to be vindication of his childhood memories while growing up in Colorado. He said his father Curtis Eugene Neece (b. Miller or Mt. Vernon, MO 4- 15-1877) told him that his grandfather, who would have been William B. Neece (d. Lawrence Co., MO 5-17-1917) , was a furniture dealer and horse trader in Miller, MO. Historically, furniture and casketmaking went hand in hand in many communities. So when we saw that sign, it seemed right in line with the family history he had been told. 3. I don't know? I will ask my dad. My family connects to the Neece family thru the White's. So he may know. He grew up one block from there. I use to go to the furniture store with my grandma when I would visit. I think I have a photo of the building I took 2 years ago. If not, I will see what I can find out when I am down there this week. Now I am curious also about the Neece name. -----Original Message----- From: molawren-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:molawren-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of sellersgen@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2007 4:41 PM To: molawren@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MOLAWREN] Miller, MO hotel sign? 3. Dear Ross, I am interested in the Dickey family, since I believe that John Dickey (1703-1789) is my 7g-grandfather. WorldCat lists this book at Neosho-Newton County Library, Springfield Greene County Library, and Stone County Library. (Along with Stockton in California, Iowa State Historical Society, and the Memphis Public library). I might be interested in buying a copy, too, if it isn't too expensive. Thank you very much for the information. - Heather http://hblair.uchicago.edu/ On Mon, 21 May 2007, Ross Cameron wrote: > Hi Sue, > > Sorry to be so long chiming in about your search. 1. Re: [MOLAWREN] Probate Papers: Robert S. Hillhouse
    2. Ross, how much I appreciate your lengthy response to my posting re. the "other" Robert Hillhouse--and how upset I am that I let the comment slip about his probable relationship to my husband's 2G-grandfather, Robert S. Hillhouse without doing some digging, myself. You see, my husband was given a copy of the Hillhouse-Dickey Families book quite a few years ago; and, as a matter of fact, Mike is even listed in the book on page 66 as a descendent of Robert Hillhouse, i.e., 2G-grandparents, Robert Stevenson and Mary Inman Hillhouse Great-grandparents, James Houston and Martha Caroline Hillhouse Gibson Yandell (Mike remembers meeting Martha in 1940 and 1944 when his folks came to the States on vacation from Brasil, where his dad was working for Firestone International) Grandparents, Edward Barry and Della Gibson Mullins (during our car odyssey last June, we had a grave marker, finally, placed at Ed's grave in Elmwood Cemetery, Wagoner, Oklahoma) Parents, Ned "Buck" and Maruja Plaza Mullins If you are interested, I can send you photos of Robert and Mary Hillhouse and of their ten surviving children that Mike scanned a couple of years ago when we visited his last surviving aunt (now 87). This youngest aunt interviewed her grandmother, Martha, in 1939, recording her responses to the questions that Mary Jane asked her about her childhood and early marriage. Someday, I want to write a short bio of Martha's life, incorporating the notes. Again, many thanks for your information--and for your thoughtfulness. 3. Hi Sue, Sorry to be so long chiming in about your search. I have a copy of "A Genealogy of the Hillhouse-Dickey Families, 1639-1972" by Bessie Hillhouse Young and Ruth Mackay Young, which I purchased several years ago. I am not a Hillhouse descendant but I have several connections to Hillhouses. I do not know if the book is still available or not. It is 85 pages, 8.5 x 11, with small print, and no index. I will see if I can find out whether it is still available for purchase. There is no date of publication, but the last page has a photo of Jeffery Alan Hillhouse, born 12 Feb 1975. The book was printed by Valley Printers, Verona, Mo. The Robert Stevenson Hillhouse (7th Generation), 23 Feb 1872-22 Jan 1910, (p. 75), whose probate papers you have was the unmarried son (8th of 8 children) of John Randall Hillhouse (p. 74) (10th of 10 children) and the nephew of your Robert Stevenson Hillhouse (9th child), 4 Oct 1824-30 Jun 1910 (p. 68). Robert's descendants are listed on pages 68-74. Robert and Mary Inman had 13 children. The last family in your line mentioned is Mary Jane Leidecker m. Paul Bateman, and their children Paul Ned and Kristen Joan Bateman (pp. 66-67). Robert Stevenson Hillhouse (7) was the son of George (6) and Elizabeth (Dobbins) Hillhouse. George (6), 11 Apr 1777 - 30 Sep 1834, and Elizabeth's family history starts on p. 24, which means there are over 50 pages on their descendants. George (6) was the son of James (5) and Mary (Dickey) Hillhouse, whose family starts on p. 16. James (5), ca. 1746- 19 Jan 1835, was the son of William Hillhouse, Sr. (4). William (4), was the son of Samuel Hillhouse (3) or Charles Hillhouse, the youngest sons of John (2) and Rachel Hillhouse of Free Hall. William was born in County Derry, Ulster (Northern Ireland). John (2) was the son of Abraham (1) of Artikelly, b. 1639 or earlier and his wife Janet. Mary Dickey was the daughter of John Dickey, born County Antrim, Northern Ireland, 1703, died 1789, York District, S. C. The Dickey family is discussed on pp. 76-84. If you have specific questions while I try to find the book for you, I will try to answer them. Or perhaps you will be able to find a copy in a library which you could borrow on Interlibrary Loan. Incidentally, there are no sources listed for the later generations, though sources are discussed for the earlier families. 3. Jan, You may already know this, but, according to information on www.familysearch.org, certainly not definitive or proof, Robert Clinton (Clint) Hillhouse was born 7 Nov 1871 in Verona, Lawrence Co., MO, passed 9 Jul 1959 in Aurora, Lawrence Co., MO, and is buried in Lee Cemetery, Verona, MO. His parents are listed as Robert Stevenson Hillhouse and Mary Jane Inman. The 1880 census lists them as well. My connection is to Minnie Bell in this marriage. 1. [MOLAWREN] Geo. HALEY hotel
    2. Deb Rowe
    3. Good Morning! Let me preface with an understatement...I know 'zip' about the town of Mt. Vernon as it stands today. In reading an old post on paper I re-discovered that the George HALEY family once owned and operated "one of the finest hotels in the region." It was in Mt. Vernon, MO. It was apparently on the west side of the Square facing the west side of the courthouse. Can anyone identify for me what might be in it's location today? Thanks as always! Deb Rowe
