I was told that Amelia Agnes Ford Bivens/Bivins died in Carthage, Mo. that she is buried in a cemtery there. I have no other information. She had a son in Oct of 1880, in Polk Co, Mo. Her granddaughter (she was named after Amelia) is the one whom told me that she died in this place. My best guess would be some time between 1884-1890. I am at a dead end with her and can't find no other information. I'm hoping someone can help me. Thanks for your Response Janet in Oregon
Hello - This is my first post to the Lawrence County mail list. I am looking for the burial place of James Wilson Bishop and Aurelius S. Finch. Mr. Finch died before Mar 1 , 1880 in Christian County. A place of burial cannot be located for him in Christian County. He lived in Billings, MO at the time of his death. It was suggested that he may have been buried in Lawrence County because Billings boarders Greene and Lawrence Counties. I have checked in Christian and Greene and have not been able to find a place of burial. Mr. Bishop was appointed administrator of Mr. Finch's estate and in 1882/3 married his widow. Mr. Bishop also died in Billings in 1889 and may be buried wherever Mr. Finch is buried. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Shirley
Good evening, Just a couple of quick questions. Is the subject newspaper still being published today? And, who would hold the back issues of the newspaper on microfilm? Thank you for your time and help. It is much appreciated. Jim Laird,FL

Hi All - Here's a great web site that can be searched by Surname, State (most states available but not all) and County for land patents. Just go up to "Search Land Patents." Once you've found what you were looking for you can view and print the actual document. Here's the URL - Bureau Of Land Management http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ Happy hunting! Dear List, Greetings, First, please tell me your Co. Seat for a records search at court house for above date, Or has county not changed Boundaries and is the same as it was in 1860. This is going to be a taught search, as I found he had changed names 4 times in Texas after he left Lawrence. So I don't know if a look-up will help me much but I'm willing to try if any one does look-up's there for 1860. This Coffman was listed in 1850 Polk Co. Mo. and was married Elizabeth S. Sanders,b. Tenn as was he. They could be using Kaufman, Haufman or anyother was you can think of. He was born, Andrew David in 1824 Grainger Tn. and had used first name of Andy, Dedrick, A.D. and D.C.. I do not think of him as a crook, but more so running for his life, from fall-out In Polk and Benton Slickers War of the 1840's. His father was a Baptist preacher and was killed, in Polk. If any one can do a look-up We will be very much grateful. And we have written this story if anyone wants it e-mail to them. I am the third researcher on the chase that had taken over 60 years to bring him to ground. I just found this link today to Lawrence, Co. in search for 16 missing years of his life and probable a family from his 1st. marriage to liz. s. Sanders and I tell you I'm very anxious to close the book on him in your nice Co. We descended from 2nd. marriage in Louisiana/Texas, and there was a 3rd. and 4th Marriage. Quite a troubled Man I think. Thank you so much. Very truly yours. Hello Fellow Researchers, I have been reading many of your stories of Lawrence County MO for some time now. I have thoroughly enjoyed them and now I would like to invite all to view my web page of Elkins of Lawrence County Missouri http://www.uftree.com/UFT/WebPages/LCElkins/ELKINS/index.htm If anyone can make any connection to the Elkins family or help me to figure out with which ancester to follow back to Tenn. I would appreciate your reply. Some of you may remember the more recent Elkins: Will Elkins (1884-1961) was a black smith and wagon maker and married to Eugene (Springfield) Elkins (1896-1957). They lived round and about Miller all their married lives. They had 6 boy and 2 girls all born and schooled in Miller. Also as a reminder. Miller has a Labor Day celebration each year. Years ago it was known as the Miller Picnic. For over 20 years now the Elkins have used this afair as a get together or reunion type thing. My family has gone to it every year for over ten years now and it is interesting to hear the talk of those that have grown up in the area and the Elkins that return each year to reunite with one another and their childhood friends. Hope to hear from you and see you at Miller! Laura Elkins
