    1. Re: [MOLAWREN-L] Mt. Vernon Sanatorium death records
    2. Ross Cameron
    3. Pat, The Lawrence County, Missouri, Tombstone Inscriptions volumes published by the Lawrence County Historical Society are for sale. The inscriptions are not online. I checked the index to volume 2 and the surname Crow does not appear. The name Riley appears on two pages, but not your Mary Pearl Riley Crow. Because it was only two pages, I also read through the names for the Sanatorium Graveyard and did not find it. There are about 30 markers with no information. And, of cousre, many persons who died there were returned home for burial. Do you know about what year she died? Or what years she was a patient? The History of the Sanatorium is at the McCanse Library in Mount Vernon. You could also visit the "Sanatorium" while there and perhaps someone would be able to help you find the records. Ross Cameron >>> [email protected] 04/01/03 08:57AM >>> Ross, I am assuming that the Tombstone Inscriptions are not on line. Perhaps I can get someone to look for me. The name I was told is Pearly Riley Crow; it could be Mary Pearl Riley Crow. I visit the area a couple of time a years and will go up again this spring for Memorial Day to put flowers on various family members graves. I will be in Halltown and Aurora so can drop by Mt. Vernon and see about the book. Thanks for the info. 1. Re: [MOLAWREN-L] Mt. Vernon Sanatorium death records
    2. Pat Miller
    3. Ross, Thank you for the help. My Aunt (not my sister) had to have died sometime between 1930 and 1936. She had a daughter that graduated HS in about 1948 and she died before my parents married in 1936. She died during wheat season, because my Dad got the notice of her death while he was working in the wheat fields. (a little trivia here) When would that be in SW Missouri? It is always possible that what I have been told is partially incorrect. There was another sister that was adopted, but I was told it was this sister that died in Mt. Vernon. The family used various first names. Her name in the family Bible is Pearly Mary Jane Riley but the Bible also spells Riley as Reilley on other family members. The only family member who told my dad anything called her Mary Pearl. So, who knows how she would have been on the patient list. There were other family members that died of TB at an earlier time. Is there any way to know where TB was the most rampant in Missouri at that time? Pat, Ross Cameron wrote: >Pat, > >The Lawrence County, Missouri, Tombstone Inscriptions volumes published by the Lawrence County Historical Society are for sale. 3. Just though someone from the area might be interested in what I found recently. I was just nosing around on various state and county web pages and found Rueban McNatt in Delaware and an Ann McNatt as heads of families. You can find this list at : http://delgensoc.org/dfnames.html ask for the Registered Delaware Families You will need Acrobate Reader to see it, but that's free. Being one generation away from the McNatt name, I would like to know about Rueban's family. Pat Miller

    3. Hi A large source of leads to family-history data is now on line. It is comprised of the Tables of Contents of the first 22 volumes of the Missouri State Genealogical Association Journal, 1981-2002+. Importantly, below the Tables of Contents, is an index. Reviewers find the whole page easily navigated despite the great amount of data included. A few of the key words with which to search the index are county names, directions (east, south, north, west), and family surnames (for Bible records). Use your browsers search function. When you find interesting leads on the web page, you will probably want to see actual copies of the Journal. Many libraries subscribe to the Journal. There is also information, below the index on the web page, on how to obtain copies of articles or issues. One can get an idea as to the length of an article in the Journal by noting the page numbers where it begins and where the following article begins. However, some articles are serialized over two to four issues. The URL is <http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm>http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm >

    2. The Missouri Territory did not include the so-called "boot heel" segment between the Mississippi and St. Francis Rivers. That segment was in Arkansas Territory. Although I do not recall the source, my recollection is that this segment belonged mostly to a large land owner who wanted to be part of the new or soon-to-be state of Missouri rather than Arkansas.
