    3. Is there anyone who has sent me an inquiry that has not received an answer? Please let me know, as I don't want to forget anyone! Just so you know, I am saving your inquiries in a folder and numbering them in order of receipt. However, those with specific dates may get answered quicker. I do have the surnames and page nos. in a doc., so that I can find them faster. The marriages have been completely transcribed all 109, but the funerals have not. There are over 30 pages with approx. 13 entries per page of funerals. As soon as both are transcribed, I will be offering them to the County GenWeb sites. Wilma

    3. Hello Wilma: Do you know the status of common law marriages in Missouri in the late 1800s? How long would a couple have to be together before the union became a "marriage" under common law? Did it matter if there were children, that is, would the existence of childrem make a union more likely to be considered a common law marriage? Could a common law wife inherit property in Missouri at that time? It is called circuit because the judges and attorneys were appointed for a group of counties called a judicial circuit or district. They traveled the "circuit" in those counties. 3. Hello Wilma, Thank you for the offer of look ups. I am trying to find marriages for my Gates line. They were in Lawrence county MO from about mid 1850's through the end of the civil war. Some went to Randolph Co AR, but others just plain disappeared and I believe may have relocated to KS. I know the dates are not much to go on, but if you should run across them I would appreciate it!
