I am not certain but it is possible that I may be related to them. My grandmother's father was Benjamin Moore and he and his wife moved to MO from Lincoln Co TN (I think it was TN). Family rumor says that he joined the confereacy--was in the battle of Pea Ridge--may have been captured--but died in 1862 (I think). His youngest daughter, my grandmother, Julia Breckenridge Rowe was born just after he died. Her mother was butchering a hog for the family and went into premature labor. Julia weighed 2 lbs. They kept her on a pillow "in" the oven. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Some time ago, I received information on Thomas Hash Re: DAR dedicating a Monument at his grave site for his service in the Revolutionary War. Have lost this E-Mail and would appreciate those who responded to let me know more about this. I will be most willing to share data on Thomas and his son Phillip Hash. Sincerely, Lee Hash Culpeper, Va.
I have a copy of the probate files for Samuel B. Chidester, my 1st cousin 4 times removed. His estate was probated in 1887 in Lawrence County Court. In the file copy there is a hand-written page numbered 2 which starts in the middle of a sentence and ends in the middle of a sentence. I am hoping that that means there is(was) a page 1 and page 3. The page is part of a research report on the status of locating Samuel's heirs. (The estate was a good size for 1887, close to $10,000.) Does anyone have any idea about trying to locate the remainder of the document? Because Joshua's father John married Nancy Toliver, my third great-aunt, I have some info on these families. You may already have all you want, but let me know if you have holes. I have a lot of Toliver info. Elaine Orr Deb Rowe <kcwordweaver@yahoo.com> wrote: Hi! It is a side batch of information I have collected and the connections were through marriage with one of the many interconnected families I belong to in Lawrence County. They might not like attached files on the site so I will send you what I have in a private email and you can use it if you find something you need or if you have it already that is what delete keys are made for <g>. Dave Sturgill was an excellent researcher on the Sturgill families. However he asserts that the second wife of Old John Hash was Elizabeth Sturgill. I have searched the Orange County Virginia records (about 15 min drive from me) and found no Elizabeth of child bearing age. The Elizabeth Sturgill found was a widow of old age. No other Elizabeths were found. So we still don't know names of either of Old Johns wives. Still looking. It is hoped that in Lawrence County someone may have Hash family information needed. Lee a great Sturgull site: _http://www.thomjoy.us/Sturgill_Book/index.html_ (http://www.thomjoy.us/Sturgill_Book/index.html)
