3. While looking through a "to scan" folder of old family clipping, I found two obits that might interest somebody. They were printed in the Aurora Advertiser on June 21, 1962; obit for Jerry Standefer age 41 died June 20 in the St. Mary's hopsital in Kansas City, but was only working in KC, from Aurora.; second obit for Thomas Wilson 77 years old of Cassville, but previously from Jenkins. Anyone interested please email me and I'll scan a copy of either obit for you. Pat Miller Dallas,TX

    1. Re: [MOLAWREN] Thomas Hash
    2. Kay, I will send this in two parts. The John Hash who married Rebecca Anderson was a son of William Horton Hash, a grandson of Old John Hash OLD JOHN HASH John Hash "just appeared" on the New River prior to 1773 in what is now Grayson County, Virginia. Researchers, historians and descendants have named this John Hash as “Old John” to identify him from the John Hashes of his children, grand children, and the many descendants named John. To date, there are eight known documents found in direct reference to this John Hash: The two wives of this John Hash have not been positively identified. 1) 1737 tax records for Middle River Hundred in Maryland 2) December 16, 1773 Land surveys on New River by Robert Preston 3) September 29, 1777 Oath of Allegiance in Capt. Osbourn’s Company 4) Listed in Enoch Osbourn’s Company in 1777 5) April 13, 1784 Date of his death written on a page of a Psalm Book 6) May 22, 1784 Recorded Will listed in Fincastle and Montgomery County, Va. 7) June 26, 1784 Property inventory as recorded in Montgomery County 8) The 1880 Census records of Nancy Osbourn The departure of Old John Hash from the “Middle River Hundred” may have been several years after being taxed there in 1737. His removal West was most likely in 1740 or shortly thereafter. He may have settled for a time on the Shenandoah where his “missing daughter” was born. Thomas was born in 1756 before removing to the New River a year or two before 1773. Time lapse would be about 20 years unaccountable Known children who are identified from the recorded Will of “Old” John Hash: 1. John “by my first wife” who married Sarah (?) 2. William Horton Hash who married Eleanor Osbourne 3. Rebecca Hash who married Francis Sturgill Sr. 4. Jane Hash who married Enoch Osbourne 5. Mary Hash, the mother of Richard Hall who was listed in the Will of Old John Hash. 6. Thomas Hash who married Ruth Sturgill 7. John “by my second wife” married Theodocia ”Docia” Sturgill

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. How easy is it to research Montgomery Co? We have Cox and Godbey/Godby from Montgomery Co and would love to follow it back farther than the 1797 marriage that we have found. 2. Thanks Pat. I was in the Court House in Fincastle, Va. couple years ago. They were supposed to have transferred all the old files to Montgomery County. Most they did and some they didn't. There is still some records of William Horton Hash there but I didn't have time to copy. The will of Thomas father which we call "Old John" Hash was transferred but a copy remained in Fincastle. Only an insignificant word change but did not effect the will, wording or intent. I am collecting data on Thomas and have some interesting files thanks to the folks in Lawrence County. 2. Found the following in Court Records of Fincastle, Va. I wish to thank the DAR and SAR for honoring this fine Revolutionary Soldier. He was an ancestral "Uncle" of mine. Lee Hash Culpeper, Va. During the Revolutionary period we find among those listed in the account records as serving in Captain David Looney's Company in Fincastle County Virginia were: Thomas Hash, Ephriam Osborne and Stephen Osborne, each serving 35 days and paid 2 Pounds 12 Shillings and 6 Pence. It should be noted that at various times during the evolution of the State of Virginia, the territory now embraced by Grayson County was included in Fincastle, Botetourt, Montgomery and Wythe Counties respectively. On April 4, 1776, Enoch Osborne was promoted to Captain and Thomas Hash was appointed Ensign of their unit. William and John Hash Jr., Benjamin Phipps and Francis Sturgill were Privates in Captain Osborne's Company. On September 29, 1777, John and William Hash, along with several other members of Captain Osborne's Company, swore allegiance to the Commonwealth of Virginia vice George III, King of Great Britain, but according to Virginia military records, they renounced their allegiance to King George III to be faithful to the Commonwealth of Virginia on December 5, 1777.

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. 3. Steve, The second more direct link to the GenWeb archives that you provide below does work. However I also cannot access the marriages at molawre2 by clicking on the first link that you provided below. I get the same message that Wilma got: ________________________________________________________________________________ "The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please try the following: Click the Refresh button, or try again later. If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting). Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings. Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK. Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed. If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0. Click the Back button to try another link. " ______________________________________________________________________________________________ I presume there must be a broken link from molawre2. Try it yourself and see if you don't get the same error as Wilma and I do. Also, you may want to add the note about the error in the dates for these marriage records that I sent the other day. All of the marriages with dates in 1856 should be 1846 instead. You can verify these errors by checking the original records or any of the other published versions of these records as I did several years ago when I first reported this problem in the mid 1990s.
