Hello All, I am working on the Hough line in Laclede County. Does anyone know who the parents were of William HOUGH, shown in the Laclede marriage below ? This is to certify that I joined together in the Holy State of Matrimony, William HOUGH and Martha ATWOOD this 29th day of July, 1855. Paton HOUGH, Justice of the Peace Thanks for reading. Dear Sherry, In "the Beard book" of the county's family histories there is a William Hough who seems to be the right age. He is the son of Ashford Hough and Catherine Bohanon. (Most Bohannons in Laclede County use the double "n".) Ashford was the son of Paton and Sophia Hough. Paton was born in 1790 in Virginia as was Sophia. After Paton served in the War of 1812 they moved to Ohio and then on to Missouri. The biographer, Alma Bates, says that they had 21 children but only four of the boys lived to have families of their own. If this turns out to be your family, don't confuse the Paton Hough mentioned above with another man of the area named Payton Hough. Do you think this might be your William Hough family? In the new County History book it shows your Martha Jane Atwood marrying William Huff/Hough. She was the daughter of William Atwood (born Aug. 14, 1792 in North Carolina & died 1861 in Laclede County) and his wife, Elizabeth Ann (born April 2, 1794 in Edgefield County, NC?) They had ten children most of whom were born in Lincoln County, Tennessee. This information was submitted by Laverne Stodden. I hope this gets you a jump start. Good luck in your search!
