    3. Caffey (1900-1929) pg 76, 86, 126,127,132 1916-Death of Joseph A. Caffey Joseph A. Caffey died at his home in Phillipsburg Saturday, April 28th (1916) He was born in Megs (Meigs) county, Tennessee Nov 7, 1836 and was 80 years of age. He had not been in good health for some time but his last illness was of only a few weeks duration. Interment was in the Eureka Cemetery, near Grove Springs. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Fred McClanahan. He was thrice married and a wife and fourteen children survive him. Twelve children and several grandchildren were present at the funeral. He was a good and kind man, liked by all who knew him. He lived his life quietly, responding to his country's call in time of stress, having served loyally during the civil war. He was a good citizen and abode with friends for more than three score years and ten. He enjoyed the love of his family and respect of friends. his death brought sorrow to many hearts. The community's sympathy goes out to the sorrowing ones in their great bereavement. DEATH OF J. D. CAFFEY Jefferson Davis Caffey was born in Laclede Co, Oct 20, 1861, and departed this life at his home hear Conway Nov. 20,1918. He was united in marriage to Miss Martha Steen Mar 9, 1884. To this union were born seven children, six girls and one boy. He is survived by his wife, Mesdames Pearl Dennis of Colorado; Grace Price, Rebecca Forkner, and Nula McFall, and Misses Thursa, Ernest and Mollie Caffey; Also by two sisters and four brothers and many relatives and friends. He was converted and joined the Happy Home Cumberland Presbyterian church in 1910 and remained a faithful member until his departure. He was elected ruling elder Feb 26, 1911, and ordained March 26, 1911. He was afflicted for about 25 years and in the spring of 1918 was taken worse and never recovered. He was confined to his bed the last two months, during which time he said many good things relative to the future. Mr. Caffey was a man who will be long remembered. He will be missed on earth but heaven is the richer. The funeral service was conducted by the writer at the Happy Home Church and the body laid away to await the resurrection. J. A. RUSSELL MRS. ELLEN CAFFEY DIED IN PHILLIPSBURG MAY 4TH (1926) Ellen O. Caffey, who made her home with a daughter, Mrs. B. F. McFarland in Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, May 4th. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church there conducted by Rev.. J. A. Russell. Ellen C. McAdoo was born in Greene County Dec. 25, 1851, was seventy-five years and four months old. Her first marriage was to Thomas Caffey. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Emma E. McFarland of Phillipsburg and Charley Caffey of Oklahoma. In 1873 she was married to Edward Caffey. To this union was born six children, Martin Caffey of Phillipsburg, Mrs. Hattie South of California, Mrs. Lucy Hufft of Near Sleeper, Mrs. Maude Fulton of Oklahoma, Mrs. Carda Stafford and C. E. Caffey of Conway. She is survived by all of her children, 24 grandchildren, 4 greats, and other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Caffey became a Christian at the age of 13 and joined the Presbyterian church where she lived a faithful member until death. Mrs. Caffey lived a noble life. She was kind to her children and neighbors, having had no other purpose in the world than to do good. How well she filled that mission was told by her many deeds of kindness. Our hearts go out in sympathy to those who mourn the loss of this loved one. She will be greatly missed in the community where she had lived for many years. Interment was in the Salem Cemetery. There is a second obit for her...basically the same, with these additions: First husband Thomas Caffey...died Oct 27, 1871. Her second husband died 25 years later in the same month and on the same day of the month of the first husband. The second marriage was to Edward Caffey (a brother of Thomas Caffey) in 1873. It is 29 years since the death of Edward Caffey. Funeral services conducted by Rev. J. A. Russell a the Phillipsburg Presbyterian church, May 5th, and her body was laid to rest in Salem Cemetery.
