The Lebanon Daily Record ran the following photos: 1/9/01 - Wilson Country Store at Dove, l972, when the store was still operating. 1/8/01 - Brush Creek section house and crew, l890's. Taken in front of the old railroad section house at Brush Creek. The foreman, WA Hopkins, lived there. The house was also used for storage of railroad equipment for the section hands. Shown in the photo are Lige Hefton, Matt Meeth, Charley Long, Will Long, Jim Woodcock holding his grand daughter, Beulah Hopkins, Leo Hopkins, Mrs. Will Hopkins, Joe Hopkins and Will Hopkins. (NOTE: I hope someone on the list is researching the Hopkins family in Brush Creek area!). 1/7/01 - Half page bio on Edna Shackley, age 90, who is the oldest native born resident of Conway. Her grandparents were Poulson's, who settled in Conway before the railway came through. Her grandfather Poulson stowed away on a ship with Chris Hanson leaving Denmark, and they ended up in Conway, where they found work. The first store in Conway was built by Chris Hanson, who helped found the town. Also in Edna's family were America Adeline Ragsdale, Rosa May Gann. There is a photo in the article of Conway taken in l871, which shows Chris Hanson's store, the post office and his home. This is the oldest known photo of Conway. I am going to hang onto these photos for the next several days before I ship them off my to aged aunt (where all the newspapers go after I read them, she grew up in Phillipsburg and is now 88). If anyone wants a copy of any of these photos, let me know and I'll scan then. Martha
I have a Chris Hansen in my tree. Of course, that's like having a John Smith. Anyway, my comment is that it is no wonder we can't find our ancestors on ships' lists. They were probably stowaways. I have some Poles and some Danes who don't show up on any ships, and I know that they didn't swim here, nor drive.
