Glad to here you're coming our way! Things are kinda spread around the county...but these are some of the major places to be sure to visit... You will want to visit what has become the main genealogy library Northwest Branch in High Ridge here's a link to the county libraries http://jeffersoncountyonline.org/libraries/libraries.shtml This is also the home of the Genealogical Society http://www.rootsweb.com/~mojcgs/index.html It may be easier for you to visit the Webcat online catalogue http://webcat.jefcolib.lib.mo.us/uhtbin/cgisirsi/Fri+Jul+18+12:42:20+CDT+2003/0/49 to view what's available for research and whats available on microfilm: newspapers, deeds, births and deaths, probate, marriages, and census for instance. and lots of books on local history, some cemetery transcriptions, and indexes for census I would have to get back with you on the cemetery contacts unless someone on the list has that info handy. to look at original county records such as probate files, tax books, circuit court, etc. be sure to visit the History Center at Jefferson College http://www.jeffco.edu/library/historycenterstu.htm many cemeteries are transcribed by the historical society http://www.rootsweb.com/~mojeffer/jchs/index.html and housed at the DeSoto Public Library and they also have newspapers on microfilm Loretta Ponzar, the History Center librarian/director is who you'll want to be sure is available before your visit that day. Chris Merseal will be a great help at the Northwest Branch and Betty Olsen will be a great help at the DeSoto Library. If there's anything I can help out with, don't hesitate to ask, I'm often running between the Recorder of Deeds office and the History Center and always glad to meet another genealogist! :) Good luck during your visit!
