Sanders Burgess (elder) arrived in MO in about 1810-1820 along with five siblings and his widowed mother, Nancy. It is said that Nancy died in about 1845 in Jefferson Co., but I have been unable to find any mention of her death or burial place. Two of Sanders' sons, James and Thomas B., established the town of Sulphur Springs. I have never found any immigration records. He went by "Billy", and was born around 1853. He is in Jefferson County Census records, Valle Twp, Page 31C, 1880, married to Lucy DeGonia. They only had 1 child at the time. Living next to them were Lucy's parents, John and Genny (Virginia) DeGonia, with children listed as Thomas, M___?, Tennessa, Tophield, Savis, Willie, Charles, and M_ary. (In other census and with the help of other family members I have found other names Trecia, Jack, Sole, Katey) I have Tofield of Bonne Terre married to Stasha Portell on Sept. 27, 1898. I don't think they had any children. When I was a little girl, I remember going to their house with my grandmother Ella Nephew Hartzell Boyer Dunlap. I could be wrong, but I was thinking it was off hwy 47 near Koch's Store. William Nephew's parents were Vieto and Hortense Dupien Nephew. In 1876 in St. Louis City Directory, William was living on Potomac and was a driver. William and Mary Lucille Nephew's children were; Agnes, Ella, Annie, Frank, John (who lived in DeSoto most of his live with his wife Stella Pickett), Clara, James, Thomas and Bertha. Trecia DeGonia b 1865 married Fred Wilson. Their children were Thomas, Leo and Firman. I have a picture of Trecia and Fred Wilson that their son Tommie gave me years ago. He is deceased now. I don't know his first wife's name, but his last wife was Sam Raul's mother. When William Nephew died in 1923, he was living with Jack DeGonia per affidavits at Washington County Court House. The informant on the death certificate is Virginia DeGonia. This may be Jack/John DeGonia's wife. I can't find where they were married. Anna was living in Washington County, but I was always told she and her husband Fred lived in Herky. They had a son, Fred Paul, don't know what happened to him. Anna was born 1886. Per Jefferson County Record Newspaper, Hillsboro, Mo. February 22, 1912, found an obit with the help of Ladonna, Jeff Co. List Admin stating under Festus heading: "Mrs. Fred Paul of Herculaneum committed suicide last week. Her remains were brought to Festus and laid to rest in the Gamel Cemetery. It is said family troubles was the cause. Her mother committed suicide a few years ago." Off of the Jefferson County website I found Anna Paul's date of death February 15, 1912. Fink Funeral Home. I was always told by my gramma, Anna's sister, and other family members that Fred was having an affair while they were married and that's why she committed suicide. My dad and mom always told me that a Massey family raised the boy, Fred, after Anna died. Genevieve, Mo and somewhere along the line, he married Mary Goza. They had a son, Silas Hartzell born 1820.
