BURROUGHS returned from his California trip, looking much improved in health. He has not yet made up his mind whether to move to that State or not. Samuel WATT, Jr., of De Soto, died on Tuesday of last week. He was a young man who enjoyed the confidence and respected of his neighbors. He leaves a wife and two children. W.T. MOCKBEE, whose disappearance some time since caused his father much uneasiness, has been heard from, alive and well. He gives no reason for going away so quietly. Matilda, wife of Thomas COMMISKEY, died on the 4th inst., of puerpal fever, at her home near Burnsville. Mrs. C. was an accomplished young lady, much respected in the neighborhood, and her untimely demise is a sad blow to her husband. NORMAL INSTITUTE - The third annual session of this school opened in the public school building, in De Soto, on Monday, the 4th inst. Instructors, R.C. NORTON and J.M. SHELTON, assisted by Miss Anna McCLURE, and E.D. LUCKEY; musical director, A.F. SLAWSON. The teachers, on assembling, proceeded to the election of officers for the ensuing year. On motion, the County School Commissioner appointed D.B. VEAZY, J.M. SHELTON and W.R. IRWIN a committee to report suitable names for officers, who submitted the following report, which was adopted: President, J.M. SHELTON; Vice-presidents, Misses Lizzie E.
