I thought most mailing lists did not allow roll calls. They just junk up the archives (not to mention our in-boxes). The best way to get informative results is to post a specific note with a specific subject line. There is no advantage to posting a list of surnames without dates and places. Giving a few details about a particular surname and asking for any additional information will get a far better response today and in year's to come. For those roll call postings which do include additional information on the names, but with the heading 'Roll Call' is about as useless as the subject line of "Do you know my family?" It is not informative. This note isn't intended to criticize, it's just to point out how to use these boards wisely.
