I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. The roll call gets the conversation and topics going. I've noticed a lot of activity and surnames that I've never saw in past emails until the roll call email was sent out. If you're worried about the archives, they call always be cleaned up by the administrator and if you see emails such as this, hit the delete key. Also, I've seen tactics such as this to get everyone excited and participating on a lot of the genealogy boards and lists. Just be thankful this isn't the Roots list on Rootsweb, otherwise you would be getting a TON of responses to delete! :) Regarding the subject line, I usually skim through the body of the email, especially if it is from this list and noticed that everyone is typing the surnames in all caps, which is GREAT, so that you can find the names you're looking for on your search. I despise when people put in a long subject line, but if you were receiving email from a Lookup list, I can see your point. --Ken On 1/4/07, AlterIdem1@aol.com <AlterIdem1@aol.com> wrote: > > I thought most mailing lists did not allow roll calls. > They just junk up the archives (not to mention our in-boxes). > > The best way to get informative results is to post a specific note with a > specific subject line. Hi - There's a separate RootsWeb mailing list called MO-ROLLCALL-L that's just for Missouri roll calls; details on subscribing & a searchable archive is available at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/usa/MO/misc.html#MO-ROLLCALL Cheers, Joy Joy Schwarz http://del.icio.us/freude researching the Wells and Marsh surnames in Clark County, MO and Lee County, IA On 1/4/07, Ken Stulce <kstulce@gmail.com> wrote: > I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. Most lists I subscribe to ask you to put your surname list in the subject line. That way, a thread of responses will relate to the surnames in question. With the constant back and forth under the subject "Roll Call", when one searches the archives, the thread is among a muddled mess of responses, such as this one. Few people searching the archives for specific family lines will find much of interest in the responses to a "Roll Call" thread. As for the List Administrator "cleaning up" the responses, just how would you suggest that be formatted and communicated? I have observed no such attempt of clean up in this forum. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken Stulce" <kstulce@gmail.com> To: <mojeffer@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 04, 2007 5:02 PM Subject: Re: [MOJEFFER] Surname Roll Call > I'm sorry, but I have to disagree.
