Simply that the county had a method of helping out .... and they needed to have a record of expenditures. their record could have been called any number of things but they choose "demands against the county" as that is exactly what it was. People applied to the county for assistance. Pauper simply asked themselves or someone asked for them. Watch for similar terms - our county has "Indigent List" but its the same thing - some such list are in the county clerk's area, but I've found lists in the County Commissioners Court records - Trevia Wooster Beverly Houston, Texas ----- Original Message ----- From: "Logan & Peggy" <peglog@swbell.net> To: <Manessmchr@wmconnect.com>; <mojeffer@rootsweb.com>; <ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 04, 2007 8:24 PM Subject: Re: [ROOTS-L] [MOJEFFER] MISSOURI, Jefferson Co., BIRTHS & etc. > What does it mean when under "demands against the county", only the word > pauper (and $10) is listed after someone's name?
