Oops- In the 1870 census record that I send earlier, Catherine Ahlvers is listed as 45 years old and not 55 as I hurriedly wrote. Sorry about that, I think everything else is correct. I looked again through the 1870, 1860, and 1850 censuses in Jefferson County, and Hiram Johnson (or anything close) is not in any of them. I did however, find him in the 1907 Jefferson County Directory, in De Soto: "Johnson, Hiram, stationary fireman, r. 3rd Street, p.o. DeSoto" Rick Waggener
