Posted on: Jefferson County Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/JeffersonObits/10260 Surname: Kenner, O'Leary, Aubuchon, Claywell, Howell, Holloway, Blaylock, Elvins, Wesley ------------------------- MISS LUCY KENNER, VETERAN SCHOOL TEACHER, DIED OCT. 12 Miss Lucy Kenner of Elvins, who had taught in the public school of this area for 47 years, passed away in St. Luke's Hospital, St. Louis, Friday, October 12, 1951, ending a prolonged illness. She was born on November 25, 1884, in Festus [Jefferson County, MO], a daughter of Frank Patrick and Mary O'Leary Kenner, and at the time of death was 66 years 10 months 17 days of age. Miss Kenner received her B.S. degree in Education from the University of Missouri. She had taught 40 years in the Elvins schools, other schools having included Bismarck, Doe Run and French Village. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Dennis Kenner. Surviving are her aged mother, Mrs. Mary Kenner of Elvins and a sister, Mrs. Emma AuBuchon of Fredericktown, besides two nieces, a nephew, other relatives and a wide circle of friends. Funeral services were held on Monday morning, October 15, at nine o'clock at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rivermines, conducted by the Rev. Francis Muellner and the Rev. Edmund Clohessy. Burial was in the Old Calvary Cemetery, Farmington. Alvin Hood Service. All public schools in Elvins were closed all day on Monday in respect to the passing of Miss Kenner. Six members of the Elvins Board of Education served as pallbearers: John Claywell, Jesse Howell, Lee Holloway, Rufus Blaylock, Raymond Elvins and Forrest Wesley. Miss Kenner was the oldest teacher in the Elvins schools and among the oldest teachers in St. Francois County. During her stay in Bonne Terre Hospital, members of the Elvins Board of Education paid her a visit, and presented her with 40 roses, one for each year she had taught in the Elvins Schools. With the roses was the following expression of appreciation: "Dear Miss Kenner: May these roses express to you in a small way, our feeling of sincere appreciation of you and the unselfish service that you have rendered through the years to our school and community. Your many years of faithful service and untiring devotion to your task have not gone unrecognized by your many friends and co-workers. May you be assured that it is with gratitude in our hearts toward you, when we think of the part that you have had in influencing and helping to mold the characters of the many young lives with whom you have had contact. Your contribution to lofty ideals and principles has been great, and worthy of our heartiest appreciation. Your Elvins Friends."
