Joe, Keep up the good work! It's appreciated. No one is perfect so it's always good to be able to view more than one list on the same cemetery. Just because a cemetery was already transcribed years ago certainly doesn't been that it was done perfectly. I've found many times what is not on one list may be included on another list prepared by someone else. In fact, I have three different lists prepared by three different people of a cemetery in St. Francois County. The person who I was looking for was included on none of these lists, yet when I personally visited the cemetery, there was her stone standing tall and proud right in the middle of the cemetery! I don't know how three different people missed her. Another thing I've found is that many of these stones will have names recorded on both the front and back, and sometimes on all four sides. Some of these names may be overlooked by by one person, but picked up by another. Also, I've even dug stones out of the ground that were not included on a previous list, but thanks to my "recovery efforts" will be included on a future list. Due to weathering over the years, some of the numbers and letters are easily misread too. Therefore, more than one list is always a good source of comparison. Recording a cemetery that has already been recorded is not a waste of time, in my opinion! Thanks again! Ditto! Remember that about census records too. I think many people are missed there because one film is from the National record and others may be from a state or local record...and since there was only one original record made and then a re-written copy was sent to the sate and even local government, there can be 3 different records of the same census taking. Don't ask me which years this applies to, I don't have time to look that up, but I know it is true and I just offer it as a warning to recheck ALL available sources when you can't find your people. So what Joe is doing is very important, useful and very kind! Carolyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "B. I really appreciate Joe for listing all the little cemeteries in Jeff. Co. I keep hoping he will run across the grave of my g grandfather David Chance who died in Jeff. Co. in 1904 - David was a CW vet who served in the NC 13th and then moved to Mo. in 1870. Also there are 2 graves somewhere in Jeff Co. for 2 of my uncles, Harry Wayne and Claude Manion who died as children between 1895 and 1900. I am afraid all three graves are unmarked, but still I really appreciate the listings.
