    3. Jim- I have checked the 1860, 1870, and 1880 censuses in Jefferson County for your John. I am struck immediately by the fact that there are a lot of Ogles in each census. Unfortunately, I was unable to find your John in the 1860 census. I looked through my transcribed version twice. It is possible that it was missed by the transcriber or there is some other error. I did find him in 1870, but he is not listed with his parents. He is in Valle Township, Hillsboro Post Office, household #272. This is the household of 30 year old Elbert Smith and his wife and family. Elbert is listed as a Livery Stable Keeper. John's entry, taken September 1, 1870: Ogle, John; age- 17, male, occupation- works in livery stable, born- Missouri, reads/writes I also found him in 1880, with his wife and child: >From the 1880 Federal Census of Jefferson County, Missouri, Valle Township, De Soto, taken June 2, 1880, household #20: Ogle, John; male, age- 27, head of household, married, occupation- teamster, born- Missouri, father born- Missouri, mother born- Kentucky --- Martha; female, age 23, wife, married, occupation- keeping house, born- Missouri, father born- Missouri, mother born- Kentucky --- Oscar, E.; male, age- 10/12, born-July, born- Missouri, parents born- Missouri Rick Waggener
