    2. Hello list, This is my mom's translation of the german stones. Note the singular/plural and the explanation of Geborene vs. Geboren. One is "born" and the other is "born as" or maiden name. Some of the stuff is misspelled for instance "heir ruhen" should be "hier ruhen" meaning here rest...Geb. and Gest. is - like you thought - "geboren" and "gestorben", meaning born and died. If it is one person's grave, it should be hier ruht, if more it should say "hier ruhen." It's the singular and plural of the same verb. On Barbara Hilperthauser, it should read "Geborene" which means "born as" or, as we say, "maiden name"...Isler. It would have been interesting to know what "verse" was on the tombstone! I am certain, I could translate it as well. Good luck with your projects! Hello! Can you translate the German from these headstones that someone found in Jefferson County, Mo? I know the "Geb" and "Gest" are born and died, but, if you can tell what the other stuff means for certain - that would be great. What do you suppose the "geborn JSLER" means? Is that her maiden name? Do you have a guess as to where this family might have come to the USA from? Thanks. Hope you are well. Richard and the kids are all home sick today.
