When his parents both died Oct. 1847, James and his siblings, Martha Jane, William Andrew, Melvina, Emily D, George Washington and Lucinda E. JACKSON moved to DeSoto, Jefferson County, MO and are shown in the 1850 census, living with a Lucinda EVANS, age 66, born in VA. James married, #1 Susan STROUP, (d/o John STROUP) on Oct 07, 1852 and #2 Jane L. MATHEWS, Apr 09, 1860, both in DeSoto, Jefferson County, MO. James and Jane had the following children: John b: c 1861, Abraham (Aaron?) b: c 1863, Mary b: c 1865, Sarah b: c 1867 and James b: c 1870. James Monroe Jackson enlisted on September 24, 1861 at Benton Barracks, Missouri. He was a Private in Co. I, 22nd Reg, Infantry Ohio Volunteers (same unit as his brother, George) and was honorably discharged on Sept. 13, 1862, at Corinth, Mississippi, by reason of Surgeon's Certificate of Disability. James died May 25, 1876 and his wife, Jane died May 18, 1905 and they are both buried in DeSoto City Cemetery, DeSoto, Jefferson County, MO. It is unknown what happened to their children, who they married or where they lived. marykell@aol.com
