Posted on: Jefferson County Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/JeffersonObits/227 Surname: ------------------------- (Jefferson Republic, Thursday, July 27, 1961) Frank Gibbons, retired Missouri Pacific brakeman and well- known former resident of De Soto, died Wednesday morning at Deaconess Hospital. He had been in declining health for some time and underwent gall bladder surgery about three weeks ago. Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at two o'clock in a chapel of Dietrich Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Core officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn. Mr. Gibbons was born March 14, 1880 at De Soto, a son of William and Margaret Gibbons. He married Miss Minerva DeClue June 26, 1911, and they established their home here. Following his retirement from railway service, they operated Summitt Cafe on present Route CC, for a time, then were in California from 1950 to 1959. Returning to Missouri two years ago they began residence at 7310 Murdock, Shrewsbury, and observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary there in June. While much interested in civic affairs here, Mr. Gibbons did not hold public office. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. He leaves his wife, and four children; Walter, of Shrewsbury; Mrs. Helen Francis and Stanley, of Gardena, Calif.;and Harold, of Fort Lee, N.J. A daughter, Mary Margaret, died in infancy, and a son, Oscar Tom Gibbons, who edited the Jefferson County Republican 1939 to 1942, died about seven years ago following a highway accident in Texas. There are twelve grandchildren.
