Posted on: Jefferson County Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/Jefferson/402 Surname: Blackwell, Moon, Pinson, Cole ------------------------- Lisa, Blackwell Station is what the railroad station was called at Blackwell, Missouri. In fact, the town was often referred to as Blackwell Station instead of just Blackwell. Blackwell may have been considered as part of Jefferson County, Missouri, at one time, but it is located in St. Francois County which is located just south of the line dividing Jefferson County and St. Francois County. In fact, my grandmother's maiden name was Blackwell. She was a descendant of Jeremiah Blackwell who was the recepient of the original Spanish Land Grant on which Blackwell, Missouri was established. There is a wonderful book called "Blackwell Missouri & Beyond" which is available for sale at the DeSoto Public Library. It's almost 300 pages in length and tells all about many of the families who settled and lived in and around Blackwell in the 1800's and early 1900's. In particular, the families of Moon, Cole, Pinson, and Blackwell were very prominent in that area. There are also many pictures of what Blackwell, Missouri looked like in it's glory days. Unfortunately, all the businesses have left Blackwell today and it's not much more than a ghost of its former self. There are houses still there, but not much of anything else (no school, post office, stores, etc.). The trains still pass through Blackwell, but they no longer stop there. I have an album on Webshots of photos which I took of Blackwell and surrounding area this past year which you might be interested in viewing. Below is the link to my album which I've entitled BLACKWELL, MISSOURI & SURROUNDING AREA I hope this helps you out. If you need any further information, just let me know, and I'll try to help you out. Bettye Link: Click here to view photo album of Blackwell, Missouri.
