    3. Hello List: Has anyone been successful in obtaining information on early land records in Jefferson County? I wrote to the County Office in Hillsboro requesting a check of the grantor/grantee index for the 1820's for John Gamble. I enclosed a SASE to advise me of charges for such. I had a phone call from the Assessor's Office informing me that the Recorder's Office wouldn't do that. I possibly could go in person but she wasn't sure of that. John Gamble died in 1828; in his will, he refers to improvements on his land so he must have had some. In 1858, Joseph Reid Gamble, John's son, reportedly sold his land for $800 in silver coin so he must have owned property also. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Edna Goodwin, Pahrump, Nevada

    3. Go to http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ , click on "search land patents", fill in zip code and then put in Missouri for searching. There were 8 or 9 John Gamble's. The first one listed was confirmed in 1828 for his heirs out of the St Louis land office. Good hunting. 3. By the way, I looked a little farther, and John had at least 3 properties in Jefferson Co and Joseph R had at least 1.
