You can do the url as Donna shows or Mapquest - Plattin, MO and it will come up. You can do an aerial image of it and see the church and old school. The parsonage is across the street from the Church. My mother born there and her family lived there. They were members of the church and went to school there. In the aerial photo to the right of the church and school and on the same side you can see a bit of a road up the side of the hill, that is the old Freese store. There is a modular home behind it now and plans to remove the store. The images are a little old and the store is there to see. Thanks to my many MO friends, I know this much. I plan to visit the old home site later this year. I will try to help you if I can. Gary, in Sunny but freezing SoCal
Also, it's a rural area, not all Missouri State maps show Plattin, between Festus and Olympian Village areas. My Mother was born in the town of Platon. Where was it?
I think you are looking for the town of Plattin, which still exists and is located in the SE part of the country. You can find a map on the Jefferson Co. Genweb site. The Herculaneum Cemetery has now been added to the Jefferson County Historical Society site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mojchs/index.html Enjoy! Lisa K. Gendron
I'm looking for the burial place of Mary Delaney Byrd Kay who died 7/1/1915. Her death certificate has her Name as Mary Kay with her Place of Burial being "Herculaneum MO new cemetery". Does anyone have an idea what cemetery that might be? I've tried searching for her on the Jefferson Co. Rootsweb page but it is highly likely that she may not have a tombstone. They were poor as dirt. Thanks for any assistance! Sharon Hobart Ft. Worth, TX
I am looking to re-establish contact with Donna Salisbury, who was living in DeSoto in the early 2000s. If anyone knows her or her husband Butch, would you ask them to email me regarding our common Courtois/Courtaway family? Leslie Todd ltmedia@sbcglobal.net
I'm curious about Thomas Montgomery as well. Does anyone know his DOB/DOD information? I believe this Thomas could be the one whose the biological father of my grandmother, who was born Jan 13th, 1916 near Morse Mill. My grandmother was Lyone Montgomery Stulce Collins. My grandmother's mother was Gertrude Degonia Gordon. Any additional information would be great. Thanks in advance. --Ken On 12/13/06, richard van wagenen <rckhound68111@yahoo.com> wrote: > > According to census records, Katherine/Catherine > Thompson married Thomas Montgomery ca 1917. I'll try this again and be a little clearer! Sorry about that James! I'm still trying to figure out the new system and wasn't as focused on what I was trying to say! Have you gone to your search engine and typed in "Rootsweb"? When the site comes up, click on Family Trees. When the blank box comes up. Type in Schlect as the surname. Several family trees with this surname are listed. Barbara __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hi Becci, The Festus Public Library has the newspaper on microfilm available. Is there a library or society that holds Jefferson County newspapers from 1916 to look for an obituary for a death in Crystal City? Thanks. Becci Powers
Is anyone researching the SCHLECHT name? I have never seen it out there. This was a rather large prominant family which came to the States around 1848 and moved to the Fenton area in Jefferson County at that time. Any interest in this family? Thank you. Jim
Even if there's no probate record, you may wish to take a look into the county court minutes. :) LaDonna
I found this in my notes - so maybe there IS no probate record. Jefferson Democrat Hillsboro, Jefferson County, Missouri WEDNESDAY, 16 APRIL 1884 George GRAHAM, one of the oldest residents of Meramec township, died on the 11th inst. Of late years the old gentleman had been in rather indigent circumstances, and the county court had made an appropriation for his support at the late term. -----Original Message----- From: marthabell43@yahoo.com To: mojeffer@rootsweb.com Cc: wckrzyzanowski@aol.com; lsnehring@aol.com Sent: Mon, 1 Jan 2007 6:42 AM Subject: Re: [MOJEFFER] MOJEFFER Digest, Vol 1, Issue 97 Hi Linda and Wendy, I was wondering the same thing about Samuel Graham being the father of George GRAHAM. I know we talked about it being logical but never have found proof. Have either of you found any of the land records for the Grahams in Jefferson county? I know the Samuel Graham had an early land grant but have never been able to get copies of the original documents. Maybe if we find those and then follow the transaction for the land we can get some more clues. Does anyone know if Samuel or George had a will that would give some clues? Were do we look for those documents in Missouri? For the record my husband David is a direct descendant of George Graham and Margaret West too. Wendy is his 1st cousin. More than once if I would have hit the delete key on a roll call name, I would have missed a very interesting puzzle or some info I could use myself. I get about 100 emails a day from various lists and such - it doesn't take that long to skim the body. If it is taking too much of your time, maybe you should rethink the number of lists you have subscribed to. Good hunting! -----Original Message----- From: kstulce@gmail.com To: mojeffer@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, 4 Jan 2007 5:02 PM Subject: Re: [MOJEFFER] Surname Roll Call I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. The roll call gets the conversation and topics going. I've noticed a lot of activity and surnames that I've never saw in past emails until the roll call email was sent out. If you're worried about the archives, they call always be cleaned up by the administrator and if you see emails such as this, hit the delete key. Also, I've seen tactics such as this to get everyone excited and participating on a lot of the genealogy boards and lists. Just be thankful this isn't the Roots list on Rootsweb, otherwise you would be getting a TON of responses to delete! :) Regarding the subject line, I usually skim through the body of the email, especially if it is from this list and noticed that everyone is typing the surnames in all caps, which is GREAT, so that you can find the names you're looking for on your search. I despise when people put in a long subject line, but if you were receiving email from a Lookup list, I can see your point. --Ken On 1/4/07, AlterIdem1@aol.com <AlterIdem1@aol.com> wrote: > > I thought most mailing lists did not allow roll calls. > They just junk up the archives (not to mention our in-boxes). > > The best way to get informative results is to post a specific note with a > specific subject line. There was a question of the archives clean-up, those are maintained separately by the rootsweb management, not the list administrators. Any archives management questions and issues can be directed to them by visiting Rootsweb.com and clicking on Help Desk. A volunteer usually responds within 24-48 hours. Leslie's tip on adding surnames to the subject line also is very helpful. This has been an informative thread on how to make roll calls manageable and the pros and cons. And, if anyone has further concerns or questions about the archives, the help desk is there to assist and aids the list to return to Jeff. Co. topics. :) Wishing all great connections and a Happy New Year! LaDonna -------------------------- List Administrator Mojeffer-admin@rootsweb.com
