Everton Publishers books tell us that Missouri birth records did not start being recorded until 1910, altho' a few of them were recorded between 1883-1893. It became compulsive in 1910 for every state. You can still find ( in some of our courthouses) the birth and or death books of 1883-1893. The 1910 census records should tell you his age at that time in history, although this is considered a secondary source, it is sometimes all we have to depend upon, genealogy is sometimes a "hit or miss" situation. But so much fun and so many folks are totally emersed in "finding their roots" these days. I have done it for 34 years now, and have enjoyed it immensely. Have a good day. J. This information is found on the MO Archives site----"Birth and Death Records: The State of Missouri began keeping birth and death records statewide in 1910. The Archives has death certificates over 50 years old. Prior to 1910 a few birth and death records were kept from 1883-1893. Dates vary from county to county. NOTE: Exception on dates-St. Louis City began keeping records as early as 1850 (incomplete)." ----- Original Message ----- From: franvaughn@sbcglobal.net To: Mojeffer Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 8:20 AM Subject: [MOJEFFER] re/question You would think that the birth of Forrest W. You would think that the birth of Forrest W. Gill would be registered some where since he was born in Jefferson Co. in 1906. Fran
Actually, according to the SoS website, it was passed in 1883 and repealed in 1893. http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/bdrecords.asp In any event this explains why there are very few records in the pre-1910 database.
